In tennis, the pinnacle of the game is not the Olympics. The grand slams are what people remember you by. And the money ofc

Olympics are also BO3 and so are the year end championships.

 

Only the slams are all BO5 for men.

Grand slams have highest rating points, 2000 points for winner. 1000 pts for Masters 1000, 500 for Masters 500 and so on. Determines race to year ending championship, apart from other things like seedings, invitations.

 

Olympics offers zero rating pts, zero prize money, no big history or legacy.

Also most of the top players don't come from medal starved (per capita) countries like ours. So it doesn't matter much to them I guess.

Also history matters. The reason why 50 overs WC is held in such high regard is because of its long history, T20 WC, WTC are recent in origin and don't have the same charm.

 

Hockey in Olympics has 120 years history (one of the longest uninterrupted sports in Olympics) and folklore of pre independence Indian team, Dhyan Chand, Balbir Singh Sr., India winning in Berlin to spite the Nazis etc. Hence more prestigious than hockey WC which had its first edition in 1971. 

 

Tennis was on and off and became regular only from 1988, made more famous because of Steffi Graf's greatest year (won all 4 GS as well as Olympic gold). But many top players avoided it, tennis as such has a packed calendar and Olympics offers zero ranking points. American Sampras skipped it in 1996 when USA was the host nation, and surface was hard court, shows you how seriously it was viewed back then. Now more popular because of Big 3 and how it can help complete their resume...Nadal winning Beijing gold is often brought up by his fans to claim his superiority over Federer and Nole. I am sure Alcaraz would want to get this done with asap, to solidify his future claim as GOAT, Sinner unlucky to miss out. 

 

Cricket in Olympics may not have the same status as WCs but for poor sporting countries of the subcontinent, it is a relatively easy way to get a medal.....Aussies, English, Kiwis can afford to mess up, we can't.

Football Olympics used to be main event before WC. That's why Uruguay has 4 stars on their jersey (2 Olympics + 2 WC).

 

In cricket, while ODI WC has legacy, tests also have their legacy especially in the eyes of Aus-Eng. For them, Ashes is at top cause Ashes were there for 70-80 years before ODI even started.

 

LOI WCs seen as bigger in subcontinent.

There are many illegals ,low wagers, 7-11 wallahs as well,not every ind migrant is a genius. And athletes can also come from nerdy families like leander paes or sachin.

The parents are still india.

Again focus is always on study. Not sports. Culturally it hasn't changed. Will take a while.
