NCAA GOAT Spencer Lee's mom used to represent France judo team....and Spencer is gonna win 57 kg gold in freestyle wrestling, saw a family documentary about him and saw how big judo is in France. Random 2 am musings, so pardon me. Judo and taekwondo doesnt need props. Just technique. Not like archery and shooting. I see so many karate judo taekwondo classes and institutions in cities across india and every second child we speak to learns karate or judo. Why then cant we get a champion I cant fathom. In India, quality of combat sports gyms/classes is pathetic. Except boxing, wrestling in a few pockets. Most of these dojos in our cities are just for show, kids don't learn anything useful. neel roy and Kron 2 Link to comment
Gollum
Look at a BJJ gyms in New York (Renzo's, Unity, 10th Planet, Marcelo's...) and compare it to the ones in Mumbai or Bengaluru. Zameen aasaman ka faraq hai, even the instructors here are noobs. Huge gulf in technique, dedication, competition, intensity. Why should judo, TKD be any different? Lone Wolf 1 Link to comment

In United Kingdom the classes are regimented and every single class is visited by scouts. Its taken rather seriously. Standards are pretty good. In Dublin boxing is like the most popular sport. In India its to satisfy dad and mum s fantasy that mera beta all rounder hai Gollum 1 Link to comment
Gollum
Tokyo was extra special because of athletics gold, and for me personally a hockey medal is worth more than one even if it makes no difference to the table. So those 7 medals felt even richer, qualitywise. Link to comment

And then hanmer ireland so that against Belgium we are playing with freedom. Aus we ll lose 4-1 or 5-2. Gollum 1 Link to comment

Gollum
Vadlejch and Weber are serious gold contenders in javelin. Neeraj is more consistent no doubt but (season) peak vs peak, he'll lose to these two. Sgattick10 and neel roy 2 Link to comment

If we lose to Argentina or nz we dont deserve a medal. India has invested a lot in hockey now. Played a lot of games. Facilities are excellent. Its ranked 6th. Was ranked 4th few months ago. So I am hopeful. no idea how the heck Ireland has become so good and south korea so bad..Also looking at the rankings except for Italy and brazil who are missing rest all top of the pile are FIFA footballing giants.. There is talent. No investment however and lack of proepr coaching. Hockey is a harder game than football anyway. Also I agree with gollum our takewando and judo coaches are for show. Mostly newb coaches. We need proper coaches who actually studied the art rigorously to allow our athletes to flourish. Gollum 1 Link to comment

Aus is the team to beat though they have been on a choking spree last decade or so (except against us), kind of like Indian cricket team. Bel may be favorites but an aeging team. Won't be surprised if Dutch win double gold, prime age/form without mental lapses of Aussies. Germany recent WC champs, mentally toughest team out there, won QF, SF, F in the WC after being in 2 goals deficit each time....against Eng, Aus, Bel. Competition is tough as usual.
