Aus is the team to beat though they have been on a choking spree last decade or so (except against us), kind of like Indian cricket team.

Bel may be favorites but an aeging team.

Won't be surprised if Dutch win double gold, prime age/form without mental lapses of Aussies.

Germany recent WC champs, mentally toughest team out there, won QF, SF, F in the WC after being in 2 goals deficit each time....against Eng, Aus, Bel.

Competition is tough as usual.

What are you expecting? Silver, bronze? Gold if luck and referee favors us. I rem' last time we got a terrible ref in ko match still we won. Talent is there in hockey.

In Tokyo we had Rupinder Pal Singh as primary PC taker, Harmanpreet second battery.

This time just Harmanpreet, other PC takers (Sanjay, Rohidas) are nowhere near his quality. And Harman choked badly in the WC.

This is my primary reason of concern. Hope Craig Fulton has some ace up his sleeves in PC tactics. Team is overall better (fitness, tactics, structure, defence) but in this day and age, PCs are often the deciding factor.

Realistically a QF exit at the hands of Germany or Dutch. Gives me more of 2016 vibes where Belgium knocked us out in QF.

PC is a big worry for me, and some selections were bizarre.

Anyway hope for the best. Maybe the team was hiding its preparation in the lead up.

Yea for what I have seen we seem bad at converting PCs.

Btw has india invested in hockey overall though? It's improved hasn't it? Nowhere near cricket level but a decent amount has been put into hockey no?

Refs still seem to hate us though. For that we need to truly establish power/hegemony like we do in cricket. Power is established when we have the authority to question the governing body's decisions. We can certainly achieve that in cricket but we are not at that level in hockey.

I am expecting silver in men's and women's hockey this time. Enough bullshite. Time to destroy the chutiyas from gora land

Womens team cannot get silverware as they haven’t qualified. Mucked up

the last qualifying match against usa

In wrestling, Aman Sehrawat (6th seed, 57 kg FS) and Vinesh Phogat (50 kg FS) are the best hopes this time.

Vinesh has good form behind her, winning gold at spanish grand prix close to the Olympics

Aman Sehrawat is very consistent, reliable, n a humble guy with good work ethic like Ravi Dahiya(same weight category).

Whatever happened to that girl from Tripura, she did quite well in gymnastics.. We need to invest in gymnastics well. There might be some talent from NE

She had numerous knee surgeries and unfortunately couldn't get back her form. She's still around Dipa Karmakar

This is how it works....

If Indian hockey does well - Indian hockey gets credit ..... Indian hockey has improved etc.

If Indian hockey does not do well - Indian cricket gets the blame.

India may owe Indian hockey something, Indian cricket owes Indian hockey nothing.

'Insulted', says Indian archery coach Woong Ki for not being given accreditation

“I have been preparing with the goal of helping India win a medal for the first time at the Paris Olympics. However, I believe that appointing a foreign coach but excluding (me) from the Olympic Games archery coach is a big mistake by the IOA and a decision that does not follow the original plan and goals,” he said.

“Paris Olympics is India’s best chance to win a medal in archery. It is very unfortunate that I cannot be with the team right now. I can only send messages to the team and I have told them what they should be doing during the tournament. I hope the Indian archers win a medal at the Olympics,” said Woong Ki.

Vinesh was top seed in Tokyo and unseeded in Paris. Antim Panghal is seeded 4 in FS-53 kgs but for me, Vinesh has more chances of a medal.

Antim has to win 2 bouts with her seeds and she doesn't face the Japs till the finals. Golden opp for a medal. Vinesh IMO is a no-hoper. She is all hype. Our only male wrestler Aman has also been seeded. Hopefully, he has a chance for a medal as well.

Vinesh's past record is very good and recent form as well. Seed 1 (previous Olympics) is no joke. She will face tough opponents upfront as she is unseeded. I think she has the fire, and can spring a surprise although in Olympics only little hopes of an outright surprise but imho, she can do it. Let's see.

Antim competing in first her Olympics.
