Don't know why I am getting very Rio 2016 type vibes from this.

In London 2012 we punched above weight won 6 then Rio 2016 was a big disappointment with just 3.

In Tokyo there was a genuine chance of going double digit but 7 with 1 gold in Athletics was still the best performance in our history by some margin.

Aditi, Deepak Punia and Women's hockey team missed out by very small margins. Atanu, Kamalpreet and a few others were in contention too.

This time PV Sindhu, Men's hockey team, Men's wrestling.. in these we are sure not going to medal. So unless some lesser names step up, the tally is likely  to go down from the last time.

Keeping expectations low, but will cheer for the team.

Just 2 in Rio, Sindhu silver and Sakshi bronze.

By law of averages, shooting has to pick up, couple of medals there in initial days and our campaign will be good, gut feel.

There are so many medal events in lesser known sports, why can't we have one medal event in Kabbadi? A Kabaddi tournament is pretty entertaining even for neutrals and is not expensive to organize. The GoI and Ambanis should push for this with the IOC.

Also if Breakdancing and Skateboarding can be in Olympics then why not something like Yoga lol.

IOC will do everything to minimise India contingent chances of medals- they did that in 2012 in boxing and also tampering with events which India is strong in. like shooting events being dropped for CWG etc.

They will put breakdancing as an Olympic sport, BMX biking etc. 50 medals in swimming, 50 medals in Cycling just to favour white nations to boost their medal tables

Breakdancing is not a sport. Period.

Anything that needs judges - be it gymnastics or diving or figure skating - is fishy results wise. It can never be as objective as Usain Bolt crossing the tape before someone else or Neeraj Chopra throwing the javelin furthur than anyone else.

A friend remarked that not all boxing matches end in a KO or TKO and not all wrestling ends with a pin down. Judges are there too.

However the judges there have to be "more" objective as in count punches/jabs landed or takedowns not resulting in a pin. Even then there were likes of Don King  in pro boxing......

Still results in boxing and wrestling can be iffy sometimes with the judges.

Even Boxing is heavily dependent on the mood of the judges. Thats why can never be a certainty for medals. We have been screwed before

Interestingly MMA is not an Olympics sport ..... and breakdancing is.

With MMA my guess is the fighters don't want to fight multiple fights in a few days possibly screwing up their pro careers.

Boxing has the head protection in Olympics which allows multiple fights but the takedowns and grappling in MMA combined with the hits can be hard to do over multiple fights unless the refs are ready to stop fights very fast..... actually like Boxing.

Once they're added, we can join the British in inventing a sport and losing in it :bebored:

investment is needed at grassroot level not two weeks before the olympics

Need to demolish few useless stadiums and convert it to multi purpose ones.

Easily do able.

What India is actually lacking in is sporting infrastructure.  Talent will naturally emerge if we have proper facilities

infrastructure has to be local to the suburbs. So a lot of infrastructure.......number wise.

I mean taking example of Mumbai if there is a facility in south Mumbai - sports people in Mulund or Andheri or Borivali can hardly access it easily.

I think the problems of Bangalore or Chennai are similar - traffic wise - although am not familiar with those cities.

Judging in Olympics is as biased as it can be. In sports like Gymnastics, swimming (diving & synchronized diving etc.), boxing, judo and another martial art, countries like US and China get a huge leg up. There was a huge controversy when a gymnastics medal went to US couple instead of Canadian team despite everyone thinking it would go to the Canadian team. Same way in early 90s when Ben Johnson was banned for taking PEDs but Carl Lewis wasn't when it was later found Carl Lewis was on PEDs as well.

Same with boxing and martial arts scoring where scoring can be subjective or dependent on judges. You'll see that 50-50 or close matches invariably go to the bigger teams. IMO all the Olympics sports should be black and white, i.e. no ambiguity. If the scoring has to be done subjectively either remove the event or let AI do it real-time. Smaller nations get jobbed otherwise. It's similar to Indian hockey team against white teams - refs tend to rule in favor of goras as majority of refs are goras and it does play a part when you make close calls.
