Maharaja - starts slow, but builds beautifully and connects all loose ends.. plot twists were discussed so much on reddit showing how much people liked it

:star::star::star::star:
Manjummel Boys - nice plot, builds well and finishes well..

:star::star::star:
Shaitan - good for the most part. Madhavan and Janki did well.. Ajay Devgan was poker faced as usual

:star::star:
Savi - average prison break.. illogical at many places

Trap - started well, nice premise.. illogical, unbelievable beyond a point and confused ending

Kalki 2898 - too random. I slept through 45 min in between. Some of my friends liked it

Negative 100 stars

Indian 2 - pukeworthy sequel of an all time classic. Original Indian (1996) was one of my most favorite commercial Indian movies of all time

Indian 2 , just watched for 10 mins to realize it was a waste of time. At least for Kalki , I knew and was told that the second half gets better and redeems the bad first part. Will watch it someday when  someone puts a gun to my head

I knew Indian 2 will be terrible just by looking at the trailer. But got coaxed into watching it in the first few days of release.

Yudhra (2024, Hindi) :star::star:

A couple of friends showed up at my house and we somehow ended watching this film. I had no idea what it was about and did not know the actors as well.

I wasn’t totally bored but the movie felt stale, repackaging previously used concepts (including from TV series Dexter). It is probably more suited as a made for TV action film.

At the start of the film, I told my friend that the “secret” villain is likely to be one of these ”two” characters and it did turn out that way.

Watch it only if you are into such “masala action” films.

Joker: Folie á Deux :star::star:

In the trailer Joker says “let’s give people (or audience) what they want” but the film doesn’t.

It starts off relatively well, appearing to be shaping into a decent love story. There is some good acting as well. As the film progresses, the writing keeps breaking down. It is like the film reaches a point and then it gets confused as to where it wants to go.

The musical format is a mixed bag as at times it works, and at times it hinders the flow.

The film has its moments but overall, it does not work. I would say that the end even spoils Joker’s legacy. So if you like the character of Joker, you could be better off skipping the film!

Joker: Folie á Deux (2024) Review  (be warned of spoilers)

Joker (2019) is probably not a film for everyone but is among the best modern films. Technically, it is strong in screenplay, acting, cinematography, score, etc. It covers the topic of mental disorder and abuse in a manner where you do not necessarily walk out of the film feeling good. It starts off on a sad note and keeps getting sadder. Then it reaches a point where the Joker fights back in his way. The abusers, rude selfish people, and attackers are put in their place (or in the grave where applicable).  In a way, Joker triumphs by presumably connecting with a hidden persona in him.

Five years later comes its second part. As someone who appreciated the first film (can be put on a best films list, not necessarily on a favorite film list), I was looking forward to watching it, expecting the film to build up on the first one especially continuing with the tone set in the last 30 or so minutes in the first film. With a budget of $200M, the production values were expected to be high.

However, what Todd Phillips presented was just another version of the first film. Everything is basically reset where we see the Joker pitted against another set of abusers. In the matters of love, he is again taken for a ride (though in the first film, his love was imagined). In between, characters from the previous films are thrown in more or less uninteresting court sequences. The difference here is that in this film Joker fails. His abusers, it is implied even rape him, triumph. He is killed (shown bleeding to death) by a person who is supposed to take over the Joker mantle from him. So the question - Is Arthur Fleck not even the Joker that we know?

In the end, the film feels phoney, impacting even the narrative and tone in the first film. The sliver linings are the production values and acting. Overall, the film deserves the backlash that it is getting!

Back to Phillips, he’s starting to slowly distance himself from this ‘Folie à Deux' debacle by explicitly stating, multiple times, that he’s “done” with DCEU. Don’t expect him to make more movies with Warner Bros either.

:rofl:

There’s an assortment of reasons why Todd Phillips’ “Joker: Folie à Deux” severely underperformed, but in my opinion, the toxic word of mouth did it in, and that really started with Warner Bros deciding to give it a world premiere at the Venice Film Festival.

Indian Jones 5 too was screened in Cannes before its wide release and got destroyed by the critics to underperform at the BO.

Wild Robot (2024) :star::star::star::star:

A solid film (a bit in the mold of something like an Avatar).

Usually I avoid 3D but it was the only option in the mall I visit (It maybe available in 2D in other areas) but the experience was good!

@Gollum Thanks for the recommendation!

No news yet of Heretic’s release in India :shock: … I went to get tickets but the folks here had no news.

From a poster, Puspa 2 is releasing on Dec 5 (or was it 15 :hmmmm: )

Because there is no news of Heretic, now may have to consider Gladiator 2, which is releasing on Nov 15 or something.
