Houseful 5 (2025, Hindi) :star::star::star:

The film has received mixed reviews so I expected to eventually walk out of the cinema at some point but it turned out to be a fun time pass.

It is not a film that will linger in your mind the next day but when in the theatre esp. with friends, it can keep you entertained more often than not.

The murder mystery is also done well.

Materialists (2025) :star::star::star:1/2

Overall, a good watch. Cinematography, including how actors and cityscape are shot, is good. I liked the color balance as well.

As for negative or things to look out for: it is billed as a rom-com but it is more of a drama film. It starts off well but begins to lose steam from around the mid way point, which also goes into the familiar seen it before category. The acting is ok where you can laugh at times during serious scenes esp. involving Chris “I don’t have any materials but love” Evans. Maybe it could have had a realistic ending to suit the title.

Sitare Zameen Par (2025, Hindi) 3.5/5

A good time pass watch. A positive is that you don’t get bored. The theme is good too.

Dragon (Netflix ) 4/5

Started watching with low expectations, but turned out to be pretty good. It's like the 3 idiots version of college-work life.

Some parts are exaggerated, but overall feel good film with some high moments. Last 30 mins were very good. Well written and acted.

F1 (2025) 3.5/5

A good time pass feel good film esp. if you like F1.

Watched it yesterday. A bit too sappy for me .. usual formulaic stuff ... outwardly macho nonchalant hero is actually an emotional baby etc etc. ... but man ... the racing scenes are extremely well-done, IMO. And it was cool to see almost the F1 race tracks in the world.

Rant: Freakkin Mexico and Hungary have F1 tracks (both were shown in the movie) and I also learned that Azharbhaijaan has one. Why not India?

Metro In Dino (2025, Hindi) 4/5

Pretty good. The Anupam Kher sub plot is inspired by Late Spring (1949, Japanese). Editing is top tier.

We had an Indian Grand Prix in early 2010s, Buddh international circuit near Noida. Successful also, racers loved the track, huge revenue generation.

But then UP govt (SP) decided F1 was not a sport but entertainment, hence subject to entertainment tax, legal issues over that. So yeah, basically politics ruined it via tax disputes, end of story. Not returning any time soon, that entire saga left a bitter taste among F1 higher ups, they really wanted India as a market, Bernie Ecclestone himself was very invested in the project, but 3 years is all it took for it to come crashing down. We had Force India back then (earlier Jordan, Michael Schumacher's first team), couple of Indian drivers, now nada.
