AuxiliA
5 minutes ago, goose said: @Chakdephatte has the right idea but not quite 59.61 while he was batting on 117 just before he got out in the 1st innings of his 93rd test vs WI in Apr 2002. He got out for a duck in the 2nd inngs so his avg dropped to 58.72 by the end of the match. But the right answer would be what @Tillu stated as Stats are counted only at the end of a match not while it's on. Tillu 1 Link to comment
Serpico
It was the second test in the Windies tour 2002. His average touched 59 after the first innings century.. 59.17 to be exact. goose
A batsman's stats change after every ball. Indeed had a graphic flashed up on the telecast when he was 117 not out in the 1st innings of his 93rd test at Port Of Spain it would have said 59.61. Link to comment
Tillu
2 minutes ago, goose said: CORRECT 59.61 In the link provided by @Serpico it was showing 59.17, so which one is correct. Is it 59.17 or 59.61 Link to comment

Ultimate_Game
IMO Tendulkar should've retired after winning the 2011 WC. It was the perfect time for him to leave on a high and ending with 99 intl 100s would've been similar to Bradman's Test average of 99. But he went on to play another 2-3 years for his 100th 100 and brought his average down. raki05 1 Link to comment

Longevity which is a factor in defining greatness of a player isn't the only factor. There can be people who can come close to his record. It's not an unbeatable record. A purple patch like what Root is having (and him facing weak opposition) will get him close to 40 centuries in about 12 months time. No one would come close to Bradman. It's just not possible. I do agree that he should have retired after the 2011 WC. He had nothing to prove to anyone. There might have been some pressure from BCCI and the broadcasters trying to milk the last they can out of Sachin. Same as what's happening to Dhoni in the IPL Link to comment
