What do you think about our other youngsters?

Gukesh is better than pragg n vidit.

These are top 4

1. Arjun 2. Gukesh 3. pragg n vidit.

Arvind chidambaram, another TN lad :hatsoff:, is coming up fast.

Pragg should work on physical strength. Maybe he can't do much here. He looks worn out. But that's always been the case. Wish he makes comeback towards 2800 but maybe lack of physical strength deters him.

Think Gukesh has the clutchness, mentality thing. Just 18 and 2 historic Olympiad top board performances, candidates win.

Hope to see Arjun secure more invitations to top events.

Then there is Nihal. Fallen behind his contemporaries but he's supremely talented. Raunak Sadhwani is also playing the Chennai GM masters.

Among the girls, Vaishali and Divya could be challenging for the world title in a few years.

Then there is a 3 year old.. With a 1500 rating.

My brain just can't fathom what happened here

That could be ignorable...

@Gollumtalked about ratings inflation.... IMHO, that won't be a thing from now on. It was a thing for 2 reasons -

1. Players starting young compared to earlier generation...so they could memorize more as a kid.

2. A lot more theory available in computer era.

Due to the above 2 reasons, the motivated players ( thanks to their parents also ) could really excel compared to others.

Now the players can't start any younger. So ratings inflation won't be a thing anymore in future.

Arjun beats sarana, gains abt 3 pts reaches rank 2 in live ratings - 2805.8

https://www.2700chess.com/

I think he is on the way to surpass magnus (2831) as no. 1 in the world.

Ding is #23 and Gukesh is #5.

There is a 50 point gap in their rating.

My ideal world championship result would be that Gukesh wins the crown and crosses 2800.

:isalute:

:icflove:

Has there even been a world champion who was #23 (or worse) in FIDE ratings?

All these rating points mean nothing if Arjun or any of our top chess players doesn't win the World Chess Championship title atleast once in their lifetime.

They might become the next Fabio Caruana if they fail to win it.

On the same note 2800+ rating points with atleast a single WCC title will put them in the pantheon of the top chess players ever.

What an amazing interview. The speaker Saravanan is an IM, Chess Journalist, Trainer, Coach and was so eloquent who speaks about all the current young Indian chess prodigies, Vishy and Gukesh's match with Ding Liren. Do watch it.

He used to be a regular journalist covering events before Sagar Shah, Chessbase India.

Btw this is another interesting series of interviews of his

Arjun drew his game today with two queens in his possession and is at 2800.1 points live rating which leads to a tiebreaker between Arjun, Levon and Aravind Chithambaram(He's playing good chess).

Arjun is like Pant. He knows something which we do not understand. He gives so many heart attacks during the entire course of the game like Indian team in cricket which is the primary reason I am finding refuge in Chess nowadays.

Aravindh was a well known prodigy during the time of 2013 WCC match, many predicted great things. Was Ramesh's student who commentated in that match alongside Susan Polgar....Trent and Tania were the other duo.

Maybe support system wasn't as good back then, so couldn't realize his potential. Still only 25, hope he can have a Hari/Vidit like career from here on. Can be a solid 5th board option for us next Olympiad and future 4th board if Vidit has age related decline or loss of form/availability. I have always felt that Olympiads are majorly decided by 3rd/4th boards and strength of the reserve.
