Good to see sore losers like Nepo and Grischuk not invited.

They are jealous of our rising talent (and those from Uzbekistan, USA, Germany) and make baseless allegations of cheating. Nepo is even more vile than Kramnik.

Don't get good vibes from Dubov as well.

From whatever little chess I've seen on the internet, it was mostly the Russians who are the most bitter about India's rising status in the Chess world. Even the ordinary Russians are mostly racist towards Indians. It's just the governments who are amicable towards each other.

Russians hate Indians. Saw it in Georgia this year. I guess we are disliked pretty much everywhere :(

But that kind of dislike from a supposed friendly country was hard to digest.

The Tata Steel Rapid Chess Championship in Kolkata has exposed all the Indian players in faster time controls. None of them are in the top 5 till now after three days. Our players lack intuition and tactical awareness, the primary aspects required in shorter time controls.

Pragg second, behind Magnus who once again showed his monstrous capability in speed chess.

Always thought Pragg was the most talented/intuitive among young Indian bunch, but Gukesh, Arjun have other attributes. Generally, Nihal too is good in faster time controls.

Among women, Humpy finished last but she is also too old now, age 37. In her prime she was good in faster controls, former world rapid champion, multiple times medalist in rapid/blitz.

Classical is our strong suit and should be so. All the big titles in chess world, legacy etc. are determined by how you do in classical.

World championship, Candidates, World Cup, Olympiad, Wijk aan Zee etc. have more importance than any rapid/blitz event IMO. Earlier you could add Linares to the list, maybe in the future Sinquefield Cup will take that position. I am more interested in who wins the Wijk aan Zee (for me the Wimbledon of Chess now that Linares has ceased) in January than world rapid/blitz, never mind these smaller tournaments.

Of course we want our guys to become more all round, but shouldn't be at the cost of classical. And I believe they will improve, especially Gukesh, Arjun who are still so young.
