Possible, even I thought there would be a couple of Kasparov performances. Maybe even Topalov from mid 2000s who sometimes would go on hot streaks.

Anand, Kramnik weren't that relentless, they'd be more pragmatic and conserve energy, take early draws, look at +3/+4 in closed events which would mostly be winning scores etc. Early days but Pragg may be similar.

I agree - Anand, Kramnik lacked that ruthless streak.

The experts say this about Gukesh - he is just extraordinary with calculations but lacks the talent to make moves on intuition -which is why he is not nearly as good in rapid and blitz.   Anand on the other hand has god gifted intuition for chess, which is why he was brilliant with speed chess.

I think he can have 6-8 really dominating years.

The only true competition for these young guns is Nordibek Abdusattarov from Uzbekistan.

Won't count out Firouzja despite his lackluster performance in both the Candidates, super talent. Also Vincent Keymer.

Another (possible)Indian origin player to keep an eye on, Bodhana Sivanandan. She speaks Tamil, since settled in England could also be Sri Lankan Tamil.

Generational talent.

Nihal has stagnated, maybe too much online bullet/blitz chess and less chess studies/prep.

Raunak, Leon, Pranav are others.

Need one of these youngsters to step up and take Hari's position in 2026. As good as he is, Hari  will be 40 by then, retirement age !!!!

Won't be a bad idea to lure Abhimanyu Mishra to India.

Yeah its very hard to predict. Not all prodigies break out into the super elite league. It is hard to predict how well Abhimanyu will do, there is no guarantee that he will not hit a sealing sub 2700 or max out at early 2700s.

Parimarjan Negi was another prodigy who was expected to really do very well and be in the top 5.  He just faded away after being a rockstar in Juniors.

On Firouzja  - he doesn't look super focussed on Chess. He himself said he isn't as motivated as the young Indian players. If this happens at 20, then its not a great sign.

Beautiful videos and pics. Heartwarming, especially for those of us who have been following chess for a long time.

Never thought this day would come, first Olympiad I followed was 2006 Turin, used to ready daily reports on Chessbase.

How far are we away from Chess being live telecasted on television and OTT apps like Hotstar. Is there an Indian equivalent of IPL in chess? There is a great scope for commercialization of chess. They can show plenty of ads between the moves.

So heart warming.

The sunnah of the prophet (PBUH) says that the best door to jannah is opened through respecting and making proud one’s parents.

Nagalaxmi and Mr Ramesh Babu have made lots of sacrifices so their kids could pursue chess. Hats off.

In many ways this win is also a win of our social structure. Emphasis on parents and gurus.

I would love it if Divya Deshmukh gets the GM norm now. She will hit 2500 any time.

This is the best Indian sporting win. Far bigger a deal than the the 2011 WC and the spear throw/ hockey golds. And I’ve attended the former.

Was all tears of joy. And I do not emote much. Not anymore anyways .

His mother ( like all Indian mothers ) is extraordinary.

Coming up from a not so privileged family

to rise to where he has, words cannot describe what it must feel to be in his place.

Adani group is their primary sponsor, so glad that they are atleast financial secure to provide him best training and covering all their expenses.

Also his father is differently abled and they have given it their all for their children to succeed in Chess ( which is a very risky business like all sports as there is no guarantee of success and competition is possibly higher  than any other sport )

@Gollum How do you feel about Gukesh having Caruana’s number in yet another Olympiad.

And the Candidates.

:p

Love it.

Caruana and Aronian will remain my favorite non-Indian players.

PS: Giri I consider Indian anyway.
