My family has been vegetarian and this is how our heights have been.

Grandfather was 5'10".

Grandmother 5'3".

father is 6 feet dot.

 uncles - 5'9 and 5'10".

bua(aunt) - 5'3".

My mom is 5 feet only as most of the people are shorter in her side.

I am 5'11" and my brother is 6'2".

Most of my cousins are taller than their parents or at least same.

Financially we have gotten better each generation.

There is a culture of drinking a lot of milk 2 times, eating curd in lunch and drinking buttermilk and eating desi ghee with chapatis and desi ghee made laddus in winters as a breakfast.

Pretty much normal north indian vegetarian diets.

Calcium in early age plays bigger role than protien in for bone growth for height development. Protien builds muscle strength but in those early years calcium is what you need the most for height.

Are you heavy on consumption of milk and milk products though?

Sheher me log kitna milk pi lenge. It's expensive. People drink a lot of milk in villages only where they have cows and buffaloes at home like in my ancestral village.

These stories are nothing more than exceptions

Look how so few guys ended up 6 feet plus in india

It's not just about 6 feet. Even 5'9-5'10 is fine. Average male height of America is 5'9. To increase average height, you have to be just taller than your parents and average height of the country will increase automatically and most kids I see will either be same or taller than their parents. I see very few kids who are shorter than their parents. To have decrease in height, them more kids must be shorter than their parents.

1 litre of milk contains only 34 g of protein out of which whey protein is only 8 grams. So milk is overrated when it comes to protein. The reason pure whey protein powders are expensive. Anyone selling cheap whey protein is not whey. It's mostly soya.

In india 36% of kids under 6 are stunted. Do you expect them to even reach 5 feet 6 ,?

Whey is mostly imported. It is called cheese waste . Large cheese consuming nations have abundance of it.

Within very few years, whey will be exclusively mass produced worldwide via precision fermentation(PF) only. Nestle among other companies already selling PF whey protein -

Solar, EV, PF are technologies which will be extremely dominant in this decade.

Yes, still it's expensive. Left over liquid after making paneer also contains whey.

Height is correlated with total protein consumption not just whey protein. So milk is not overrated. For those who are lactase persistent at any rate.

Even lactose intolerant people get protein from milk. Lactose is a sugar.
All it means for a lactose intolerant person to consume milk vs me consuming milk is that person gets digestive issues, but they still get the same amount of protein outta it as i do.
Its like giving white dude Murg musallam - he will get the same mount of protein from it as we do, but he will be in significantly greater discomfort due to spice intolerance levels.

Of course they will. But most wouldn't consume milk after a point if they are intolerant.   They will have to get protein from other sources

Still one litre of milk contains just 34 g of protein. No one drinks one litre of milk per day even in villages where they have cattle at home. Most have one glass 200-250 ml per day that is just 8 g of protein. Two whole eggs contain 12 g of protein. Eggs are the best and the cheapest protein source.
