Jalaj was basically an opening batsman who stated working on his bowling once he didn't get success as a specialist batsman.

Even Washington Sundar has played 4 Tests. Jalaj hasn't played any.

Agree with Bharat and Iyer, but I don't think SKY's selection in the Test team last year ahead of Sarfaraz and others can be justified.

 

Even Rinku was picked as a backup in the Test squad in South Africa based on similar IPL/T20 bias. Yes, Rinku has a great first-class record, but I don't think he would have been in contention had it not been for his T20 exploits earlier that year.

37+ yr old Rohit seriously needs to go from all forms of cricket.  Maybe he is waiting for WTC Final (which we maynot be even able to reach, as things are going from bad to worse for us)

Any young opener with decent batting record in domestics should be given chances.

That should be across all formats. Our ODI team has started stinking it up as well and they lost to SL! SL won a ODI series in ages against us. IOur T20 team is a contrast as we've youngsters and multi-dimensional cricketers unlike in Tests and ODIs where 4-5 spots are reserved for seniors - Rohit, Kohli, KL, Siraj.

He was India-A's captain before England series. Patidar, Sarfraz, Jurel all made their debuts but he didn't get a chance.

 

Now he was picked in the main squad for Aus, but most probably team will go with Paddikal at no. 3 who wasn't in India squad and Easwaran will still not get a debut.

He's probably struggling against the bounce. And they might have also noticed that in his practice sessions. I’m speculating.

He hasn't grabbed his chances. Few runs against Australia A would have helped him. Padikkal did better than him.

I think  he has not impressed them in the nets.  He failed in A tour as well. There are some guys you can filter out in the nets.  Openers job is to survive long enough. If he couldn't do that in A tour what are the odds he will do well in international. Sundar is an exception. Last time he had not played first class 2 or 3 years. Yet he directly delivered at international. Recently he had not played test for 3 years. Directly delivered at international. If sarfraz doesn't look good at the nets he will be on the chopping block as well. He is not washington. Sarfraz clicked only in easy conditions.

They are not impressed with Eashwaran, Padikal, Akashdeep, but they are impressed with Bharat,Pattidar,Mukesh,Avesh.

 

Are they impressed by current form of Kohli,Rohit,Siraj.

If Rahul plays ahead of Eashwaran, he should open the inning and should not hide in the late middle order.

In.the test against Newzealand, Pant batted ahead of him inspite of being injured and Rahul.showed why I he was not sent ahead by failing again

Good question. Sadly that is where the selection bias had to be scrutinized.  Rahul also failed in practice games. But guys like Eswaran should focus on grabbing these opportunities. Kela has Anna's backing. These guys have to work extra hard to get the attention.  He was part of the squad sometime back and got dropped without a chance.

Many don't want Rahul up the order. If he fails they will give the excuse "too much shuffling of batting order" messed up his mind.

I watched Easwaran in the 2nd innings of 2nd test vs Aus A.

He looked quite compact, good balance, decent timer as well. Didn't get runs because on those pitches some jaffas will keep coming out of nowhere. 

But I mean he didn't look like someone you can rule out just on the basis of eye test. Not sure what has gone in the heads of TM.
