I think there was a saying that when draupadi died during the trek , she said that she hoped that in the next life , he would be born as the eldest.

This is result of reading modern or western interpretations and making up your own opinions on parts of MB that were added, fictionalized, interpreted by some works which were not intended or included in the OG VyasaBharata. Yudhishtira gets the title of Dharmaraja mainly due to his gainful knowledge of Dharmashastra and for interpreting of the rightful dharma on others as a King of Indrapastha. He is also the son of Yama or Yamadharmaraya, the god of ultimate justifying authority of one’s karma. As evident in the Yakshaprashna episode , Yudhishtira shows why he is the expert of Dharmashastra. The betting and vastrapaharan episode is his weakest moment and the author wants to show or gods intentions that even perfect humans can err and make mistake. It is a conflict of what Dharmashastra says about dasa (loosely translated as slaves) and his wife automatically seems as a daasi as he loses himself in bet. Even a Dharmaraja can make ethical mistakes after all he is human. A lot of MB characters are grey and are not as white and black to be interpreted as a joke. The whole Mahaprasthanika Parva is considered as a fictional account of lliterature and added by later additions to MB and could be someone’s wild imagination or version. Not to be taken seriously.? I wouldn’t make judgements on anybody over their Karma and we can clearly make out who made mistakes in the caution of their actions were adharmic and deserved their ending.

I haven't read any western sources. Lot of MB characters are grey but are punished for their bad behaviours. Devavrata, Drona,Karna, Dhritarashtra all of them. Instead Yudhisthira is the only Pandava to descend to heaven
