He will inevitably go on the Eng tour for 3rd time as well and after his once in a series decent knock will average c30 again.

I would pick Rahul in the team and play him in the 1st Test. His best performance comes in the 1st Test and usually helps us win that and then goes missing. As soon as he has his one trademark performance, drop him and replace with some other batter.

You can do that if you can bat long and make it count. He never does it. Always gets out at the worst possible time

 

1) Right before lunch/after lunch or any break

2) Right after a set batsman is out. Most notorious one was the one where he ran Pant out for his century and he got out immediately.

3) Rarely converts starts. Even if he makes a 100 he won't make it big.

As average as Nair was or even guys like Vihari, Mayank Aggarwal they have a legitimate complaint as to how this guy played 70 0dd tests, loads of odi and t20 world cups with phattu performances, average of mid 30s.

 

also he was made to play in middle order, keep, open just to accomdate him.

 

if he was the best keeper- bat option like in ODIs, I can overlook some of his flaws but no reason why this guy should be given such a looong rope. Not a single marquee innings. Yeah he scored some overseas 100s. That’s about it. Some players are truly preferred  can’t explain

I have feeling the door is opening for Rohit’s return to Test Cricket.

 

KL and Sai are awful, Jaiswal is slowly getting worked out.

 

Rohit should cancel retirement, announce it sometime during IPL.

 

It would make sense as Rohit is playing ODI WC until 2027 might as well play tests this cycle to stay in rhythm , the players being tried are hardly exceptional.

Return in SL series away, 2 tests in NZ where he averages over 40. Finish off in 5 tests series vs Aus at home, who knows change of fortunes and India qualify for 2027 WTC final win that and then win ODI WC sign of to the sunset.
