If we win against Aus and still dont make final but those two are decent, give them the Eng tour and then retire them in the home WI tour.

We'll have to win 4-0 to have a realistic chance. Even if we win, it would be a tight series - probably 2-1 or 3-2. It won't get us to the WTC final. But theoretically if we get to WTC final let them play there (at least Rohit as captain) and then move on from them. If we are out of WTC final, move on after the series.

 

The key thing has to be that we start the next WTC cycle with a clean slate and a fresh team without any passengers. Same for ODI as well. Pick a fresh squad for CT, or at the very least move on from Kohli if you still want to keep Rohit as captain. We're keeping someone like Jaiswal out of ODIs.

 

If Kohli moves away we can have a top 3 of Rohit, Jaiswal and Gill with a left-right opening combo. Now we're forced to play Kohli at 3 and he's done. He stalls the innings and then gets out. Saw that 3 times against SL when the T20 team looked so good. He's easily bogged down by spinners and can't force the pace against pacers as well.

One of the most poetic justice in cricketing history. This guy tuk tuked for eternity and buried any hopes India had in the WOrld cup final.  Here again with the same tuk tuk buried anyhopes Australia had in the Perth Test. Almost every single past Australian players concede most important player in that match was KL Rahul above Jaiswal, Kohli, Rana, Siraj. Only Bumrah was ahead of him. It is not just batting. They thoroughly appreciate him talking to Jaiswal constantly after every wild shot. Life has come full circle for him.

That's gonna happen no doubt. But things are so bad that even a useless Rahul is an upgrade over likes of Rohit and Kohli. Half the batting unit are entitled retirees who won't find a spot in domestic teams in any other country. And here they are celebrated by their fans as stars given laughable monikers like "King" and "Hitman" when they're owned time and again by Travis Head, and many on this site claim Travis Head is mediocre 

 

Our fans lack self awareness and cricketing acumen just like our cricket stars.

The bigger torture is watching Kohli and Rohit. They're even more useless. In fact you can replace the entire lineup except Jaiswal and Pant, and it would improve our performance.

I have never seen a player who has been so gifted, with timing, height,  physique, everything, but a heart of a 5 year old girl. Choti Bacchi hai Saala!!

I didn't criticize him overly because his batting order was changed in the last Test. SO i could accept his failure even though he has too much experience. But i am not sure what excuse he has to fail in this. It is almost like a pattern. He starts well and tapers off.  I am still waiting for him to have a box office series. This is a 5 test series. He stil couldn't cross 300 runs in 10 innings

He is a mediocre batter and will remain as it is. He is going to be 33 in 3 months, has played 58 tests and yet has been mediocre.
He is even worse than Rahane, who too was similar to KL, will score couple of good inns and then will taper off.

opener to no. 3 and back is not huge change. Pujara used to open for us at times. 

 

Anyway he was in middle order before this series and only made opener to fit him.

 

That average after 50 Tests is worse than even Jadeja.

Lets give KL 5 England test and 4 home tests in 2025. Thats total 9 tests as opener.

 

If he can average 40+ in these 9 tests, he can be given further rope in 2026.  If not, tata bye bye.

Yes, highly unlikely but then we don't have anybody else opening in England. The bar is 40 for KL in 2025. If he can't acheive that, it should be the end for him.

Why not try youngsters like Sai Sudarshan? Even if he fails its an experience. Better than backing deadwoods
