This loss hurts

I was expecting Sundar to bat much higher - maybe at 5 to keep the left right combination going.

Wonder why they batted him so low at 9, and he ran out of batting partners.

Should've come in at 4 instead of Kohli. At least he wouldn't have been bowled off a full toss and that too against a spinner

Personally I am feeling the least hurt. This record was crazy and bound to break especially given our fragile batting in last few years. Home victories are great but finally you want to do well everywhere. Also if we had to lose better NZ than Aussies or England

cricket is also going through random times. Ban won in pak now eng is going to lose there. NZ lost in SL and will win here. Generally test cricket there are no consistent trends and generally there are no surprises. Foreigners play in IPL and much better players of spin and they are getting accurate spinners who can exploit spin pitches.

last few years SA series loss was bad as it is the final frontier and we had a good chance.

but we had good run last few years and two Aus series wins were great. We are clearly in a transition phase and we are likely to have a turbulent period in our cricket for next few years.

For first time maybe the T20 side seems strongest  and test the weakest.

Kohli is too proud to play lower than No.4

He can bat at 4 as a night-watchman if it's close to end of the day. Otherwise a batsman averaging in 20s over the last 4-5 years doesn't deserve to bat at 4.

Ideally, I should feel bad for this loss. But, tbh I'm not feeling it, maybe coz I have accepted that things aren't right in this team and it needs a revamp. Since we were winning everything since T20 WC, the cracks on the wall were patched.

Nah.. this home dominance was always going to coming to an end some day or the other. Glad it came against these boring kiwis rather than those cocky Australians or the patronizing Poms.

Rohit , Kohli , Ashwin and Jadeja are all probably playing in their last home series. I don't see any of them being interested enough in this format post the 2025 WTC cycle. So that's somewhat of a positive i guess.

Losing to Aussies, Eng or maybe peak SA team is palatable but losing to a kiwi team, who hasn't ever won a series in India is humiliating.

Our sporting culture is that of individual worship. Not of excellence.

We do not have sports fans. We have brain-dead worshippers.

We deserve to be thrashed like this.

So true. That's why we have "King" Kohli worshippers who don't give two hoots about the team as long as so called "King" can stat-pad a few useless and impactless runs.

Celebrate History. NZ ‘s first ever series win in India. :eyedance: :yay: They have played here for 69 years, visited India first in 1955. Yeh din bhi dekh liya. Next is SL first win in India. Usse pelle main tapkoonga

We will win this game and series

big batting effort coming up . Will chase anything under 450

if they will win..it will be due to agressive approach..and that will make us happy temporarily..but wouldnt solve the real issue..they cant play spin traditional way anymore..

I can bet that anyone in this thread would have been able to survive the ball that bowled Kohli. In fact, many would have even gotten some runs off it.

it is even more criminal to get out to a full toss in a test match. i understand you get out in t20 while trying to accelerate

I agree with the way you are looking at things. We are staring at transition, 2 have already departed with 4-5 more in queue. 2012 was the same case entire middle order was gone, Sachin was unwilling to retire, openers were struggling (Sehwag was almost done) and we lost to England.

That said NZ have come prepared so great work by them.

NZ is a very good team.

They are highly professional and you can expect this performance execution from them. Hence, you have to plan and play out of your skin to beat them.

That's what irks me more. It's harder to accept when it appears to be a lack of effort, application and preparation - things one can control

This loss actually doesn't hurt. We had a long winning streak at home which was bound to end. Can't win for eternity. Especially for a team in transition, aging players, at least four players in this team are on the verge of retirement. Out of those 4, Roko needs to be replaced asap. They scored 251 runs combined in 4 tests 16 innings this home season. Second thing is we can't make turning pitches anymore and be guaranteed of a win. Now is the time to go back to flatter tracks ala 2000s and give new young batsmen the chance to settle down. You cannot groom a new batting line up by providing such pitches.  Only way they can gain confidence is by batting long and scoring runs. Such pitches rule that out.
