Can't win for eternity. Especially for a team in transition, aging players, at least four players in this team are on the verge of retirement. Out of those 4, Roko needs to be replaced asap. They scored 51 runs combined in 4 tests 16 innings this home season. Second thing is we can't make turning pitches anymore and be guaranteed of a win. Now is the time to go back to flatter tracks ala 2000s and give new young batsmen the chance to settle down. You cannot groom a new batting line up by providing such pitches. Only way they can gain confidence is by batting long and scoring runs. Such pitches rule that out. Whats the point of scoring on flat pitches? It'll kill our bowling especially fast bowling. We need guys who can bat in tough conditions

We are good but many times we get outplayed by others especially with our Test team now in a downward trajectory. While there are talks of teams declining and cricket in danger etc. I don’t feel that. Many more teams are competitive in variety of conditions. SL for all their troubles won a test in Eng and are the only Asian team to win a series in SA and now they are building strong home record with good spinners. Even Bangladesh now has decent pacers who can do well sometimes like in Pak recently. NZ always puts up a good showIndia has been losing one off tests for some time now at home especially in spinning pitches. Our biggest weakness continues to be playing swing and seam as our batsmen are just not prepared on how to negotiate these conditions. I am not seeing this improving with T20 becoming dominant format. In T20 also ours are only players not to play league globally which was evident in the Aus T20 WC where we got exposed. We can be arrogant about how good we are and dismiss so called smaller teams but we better be read for some dip in our fortunes for next few years. There are positives definitely. T20 is building up to be a good side and we can take those ingredients in other formats. Guys like Gill, Jaiswal, Pant, Sarfaraz in Test along with Axar and Kuldeep can be core of future. Versatile players like Sundar and Axar can be an edge as long batting lineups seem to win tests. Our traditional strength of world class middle order players are missing. Guys like Rahul and Iyer who were supposed to be our next hopes have disappointed and the Big two seem ot be declining fast. Biggest challenge is how does BCCI enable that the best talents from our vast pool comes to the top
goose Posted October 27, 2024 Posted October 27, 2024 test crcket for me has become akin to a watching netflix. 5 days of binge watching a new release, lots of plot twists, sometimes it just ends up being dud
wanted_desi Posted October 27, 2024 Posted October 27, 2024 It doesn’t hurt. All signs were there for last few years and were ignored. Writing on the wall.

It hurts coz it was avoidable and we could see it coming. Selections of Kohli, KL Rahul, Siraj and over the hill Rohit were highlighted here, and it's not as if we don't have the options. It's BCCI and selectors' inability to do their job and take hard calls. Lord 1
