If look closely,we can observe that they have not selected good middle order batsman. 

Sarfaraz was not selected and only got opportunity when Iyer,Pattidar, failed continously.

They have ensured that it looks there are no alternative in middle order and mostly  top order batsman are selected.

Dhull is better IMO than Gaekwad for longer formats - not saying he should play or anything; just comparing the two
