@deepdynamo Gill is VC for the WC. That is a very big position to have and says a lot about the future. Only if they chose to split T20, then Axar will become captain.

Anyway, Jurel, Sundar, and NKR are already in the T20 setup. Jaiswal will come in, and Gill if he is captain. Eventually, Bumrah, and a few IPL up-comers like Arshad Khan and Umran Malik will be selected. There will be no space for century merchants like Tilak, Abhishek, and Sanju, and mystery spinners like Varun and Bishnoi in the T20 setup.

right now axar is better option than Sundar or any specialist off-spinner, he is not ideal no.7/8..but is okay because ind does not have any bowler who are 4/6 hitter.

axar is lot better fielder, can bat 4-8 a LH.

Sundar from his u-17-19 knw he can and will make it to Ind side but never worked on his batting do not think his batting has improved or he has even added 1 new shot

if sundar becomes a proper batter and then can roll his arm over he could be in a t20 set-up but knowing Ind selection and thinking he will be in fringes and may be able to make it to icc events.

 

look around how many t20 set-ups be it intnl or league or even domestics have a specialist off-spinner. 

Phillips (nz) was a wkt-keeper and top fielder and a hitter is nz's off-spinner, markran who hardly spins is SA off-spinning option, maxwell/short for aus, agha for pak, livingstone and ali for eng all are batters who can bowl bit of off-spin. Would say TM and selectors should push  rinku and sky to bowl off-spin more often else its already looking like rinku will lose his place and non-scoring of sky is being more and more highlighted now as he is the captain and already has tag of not able to get runs aginst good bowling sides or in big matches 

 

if ind want they should try to find some legspinner who can hit some 4/6 batting 7/8/9. UP has vipraj (nt sure of exact name) but he played some good innings this season.

Are you following Arshad and Umran a lot..did they develop something extra recently..that they will be in the team?

There is no allrounder like Arshad Khan, and fast bowler as fast Umran in India. Both are strongly-built, which is important for longevity and fielding cushion.

Arshad bowled high 130s and hit two cameos against DC.

Riyan Parag has a much higher ceiling in shorter formats.

Umran..I have read that he worked really hard on his bowling..its unfortunate he got dengue and followed by injuries..so would like to see how he comes back now..

However,Arshad is already 27 and still has lot to do to come even in larger pool of hopefuls..

My new list of 26 players that will be in contention for T20 WC 2026.

This is based on current IPL 2025 with 47/74 matches completed.

- Pant has a horror show so he is out of contention.
- KL is back in contention now as he is playing in middle order.
- Samson just clinging on his spot based on what he did in the T20 internationals.
- Rinku and Ramandeep has regressed. Rinku still in the mix though.
- Iyer is back  big time.
- Nitish has massive failure in IPL. His place is in spot of bother.

- Not counting in any wildcard picks like Suryavanshi, Mhatare, Arya, Rathi or Prince. They will not be in contention this time for sure.

Top Order: Abhishek, Samson, Jaiswal, Gill, Tilak, Sky, Sai
Middle Order:  Iyer, KL, Rinku, Pandya, Parag, Nitish, Dube, Ashutosh
Spinners: Varun, Kuldeep, Bishnoi, Axar, Washington
Pacers: Bumrah, Arshdeep, Harshit, Mayank, Prasidh, Siraj

Apart from the above 26 players, we have some exciting players waiting in the wings. 

Openers:
Suryavanshi, Mhatre, Priyansh look ready to represnt India in T20 in near future. Prabhsimran & Porel are decent too.

Middle:
Solid MO batsman in Naman Dheer, Wadhera, Raghuvanshi, Jurel, Jitesh and Patidar.

Finishers:
Shashank, Aniket, Ramandeep and Tewatia

Spinners:
Mystry spin by Rathi , steady left arm by Sai Kishor and all round spinners in Vipraj & Krunal Pandya

Pacers:
Decent attack led by Khaleel & Chahar and supported by Prince & Kamboj. Avesh & Mukesh, maybe not.

Good list but unfortunately for Krunal and Tewatia their time has passed. They should have had a long run about 5 years ago (Krunal got chances tbf) but our management was blind to identifying genuine T20 players

Also add sashank in mo, not so sure of mayank in bowling , also need to add some other wkt-keeper

Krunal won 2 MOM awards while playing for India in a few chances he got! He was pretty solid and even now he's like for like replacement if Axar is not around. Can bat decently well, can bowl and pick up wkts, decent fielder too. Krunal was dropped from the team despite performing reasonably well as he played in the era where players got opportunities in bilaterals and then replaced when "stars" came back for ICC tournies.

Vipraj is an amazing hitter and a decent leg spinner. An ideal T20 player and perfect player to come in at 8. He deserves the spot ahead of Sundar as Sundar can't hit and is a bit like Jadeja.
