Gukesh has taken the crown. For 2025, want to see Arjun take number one ranking, Pragg to dominate Carlsen H2H. Need 3 pronged attack from Team India.

Yes, and also see our women's cohort make significant progress.

Yep, that's pretty much it. We may be seeing the faster-than-expected decline of Carlsen, which augurs well for Ind upcoming players

Carlsen was overhyped anyway.

Not really. He is a tool (i.e., jerk), but one of the GOATs

Many sports have strict dress code, can you wear coloured jersey in test cricket? Or casuals in professional billiards/snooker?

Heck, all white policy in Wimbledon is so strictly followed that there shouldn't be black lining even in your socks, band aid, wrist band, heck underwear. Otherwise disqualification. Even cream colour isn't tolerated.

Just professionalism, been there for eternity. Carlsen has played these tournaments for last 15 years, he dressed formally in a recent freestyle event.

Most likely he rage quit after a horrible day one where  he got embarrassed by lower rated players. He was out of medal contention and on course to have his worst finish in this tournament, since forever.

He chickened out

He truly is a great player bro. Even in worst critic's book, he will be in top 3 of all time.

yep, top 2 possibly as well unless we start to try and include super-oldies like morphy.

Bounces back by bullying Abdusattarov. Just half a point behind with 2 rounds to go

Pragg joins him too on 8. He's gone under the radar but a strong win with black

Murzin with the win against Pragg in a bonkers of a game. That ends the challenge for Pragg

Sole leader the 18 yo Ruskie, has had one heck of a tournament. Beaten Caruana, Nakamura, Duda and Pragg

I wonder if Murzin is a late bloomer who will sweep all before him as he grows more experienced? New Russian champ on the horizon?

Don't think I've noticed him before this. Again based on the position he would have been pumelled by Pragg if that was a Classical game, so maybe it's down to the format but he definitely showed some steel.

gotta say this murzin fellow seems to be something. either it's a one-off fluke, or he is really good at rapid and will get better.

Gukesh is meeting PM, state politicians, celebs non-stop. I can only think of Neeraj Chopra post Tokyo gold, which forced him to cancel rest of his season.

Wijk aan Zee begins in a couple of weeks time, another felicitation on 5th in Bengaluru, for him and his trainers. Sad part of being a celeb in India. Gukesh though will remain grounded, he isn't like our cricket superstars.....just 18 but more mature/humble than even our retired cricket legends.

not a high bar to cross since many (though not all) legends are a bunch of babies

Humility is one thing but it'll put extra pressure on him.  Should have just met PM and some chess greats

I hope he has a good support structure. parents, for one, are well educated and grounded.
