Gukesh creates history and becomes The 18th undisputed World Chess Champion

I would not say Gukesh isn't playing at his " best" , because your opponent and his preparedness ( or lack of ) determines your success.

But clearly this is not the "easy" championship that most pundits were confident about.

I am just an ordinary chess enthusiast and extremely excited about the current crop of Indian players .......and I have been saying all along 1:1 World Championship is a totally different battle. Nepo won the candidates for the 2023 WC Championship finishing 1.5 pts ahead of Liren who finished #2.  Yet Nepol lost to Ding in the World Championship in a 1:1 setting.

Regardless of the outcome of this championship --what Gukesh has done as an 17 / 18 year old  ( he was 17 when he won the candidates in April ) ....is unprecendented.

My worry is ...in his over exertion to win with the white pieces...he will at one make a mistake that Ding will not let go unpunished.

World Championships are very tough....It is over 90 % opening preparation.

Gukesh doing his best to get into a bad position and lose.

Really shocking play by Gukesh. He is literally one bad move away from losing.

I think Gukesh did the right thing by rejecting the draw. He knows he doesn't stand a chance in the tie breakers which is why Ding is merrily offering draws in most of the games.

Draw with Black and try to win with White. Isn't that the general idea in a World Championship atleast ?

After the day's break - 2 of the next 3 games, Gukesh has White.

The last three games didn't even reach the extra time. Black or White, Gukesh needs to stretch him a couple of games and see what happens.
