Tillu Posted December 6, 2024 Author Posted December 6, 2024 7 hours ago, rangeelaraja said: Ding camp's tactics are amply clear : 1. Play ultra solidly in the classical format and wait for an over eager and aggressive Gukesh to take all the risks to get a result and blunder in the pursuit. 2. This works best for them because if the match is tied in the classical format Ding is the red hot favorite in the rapid tie-break stage. https://www.2700chess.com/rapid Ding is the #2 ranked player in the Rapid format, Gukesh is not even in the top 40. There is a 100+ rating points difference between Gukesh in Ding in the rapid format. Just for a historical perspective - Carlsen could not win a single classical game against Caruana in the 2018 World Championship- but routed him because of the rapid. Infact, Carlsen could not get past even a well prepared Karjakin in the 2016 World Championship in the classical stage. It took the rapid format for him to retain the title. And last time around - Ding beat Nepo in the rapids to take the championship. Rapid is a huge weakness for Gukesh. 2 white and 3 black games to go for Gukesh. He needs to play out of his skin to win 1 of the 2 whites and then just stonewall Ding for the remaining games. Yeah that's the reason why Ding was happy conceding draws and Gukesh is the one pushing for a result in all the games.
Texan Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 Gukesh needs to force a win. It is kind of a do-or-die situation for him. Nobody in the chess world is giving Gukesh any chance in the rapids. Ding has his strategy clearly planned out.
Vickydev Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 Another dull game from Ding in white randomGuy 1
Tillu Posted December 7, 2024 Author Posted December 7, 2024 5 each after 10 games. Gukesh still has two games with white pieces to produce a favorable decisive result. Hope it happens tomorrow. randomGuy, coffee_rules and Vickydev 1 2
Gollum Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 Gukesh in trouble. Out of prep, Ding is outplaying him mostly. Not good signs for rapid TBs. Vickydev 1

It's been a sign this Championship. Comes out blitzing moves, looks to be in a settled position after the opening showing how OP his prep has been. As soon as he is out of prep in the middle game, he seems to be frozen. Totally opposite with Ding Gollum 1
rangeelaraja Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 From having a 1 hour 10 mins time advantage to losing the game because of time pressure, Gukesh's game strategy has been beyond terrible. This is not just a nobody like me saying this, even Anand said that Gukesh has taken more risks than he would have liked ( and Anand is being mild given that Gukesh is his ward ) Personally I knew Gukesh is going to have a tough time ( I was on the opposite side of the overconfident camp ) , but his play has been beyond disappointing.
rangeelaraja Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 With Ding's 2 knights controlling the center - Gukesh will be extremely lucky to save this game This might be the game that seals the match in Ding's favor. There is zero chance of Gukesh coming back knowing his style of play and how well Ding is prepared.
randomGuy Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 What a dynamic position man....c5 square is crucial, here presently the Black knight sits, need to challenge it by putting bishop at a3. Vickydev 1

randomGuy Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 Anish Giri thinks gukesh will win this game from current position rangeelaraja and Tillu 2
Vickydev Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 Ding looks dangerously low on time. rangeelaraja 1
Vickydev Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 Gukesh definitely has the time advantage here to make this count. Tillu and rangeelaraja 2

Vickydev Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 Unbelievable.. This is huuuuge. Ding has to do something he has struggled with.. Push for a win. Feel we've got this now randomGuy 1
rangeelaraja Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 Can Gukesh just draw the remaining fricking 3 games. Don't care about the world thinks about the quality of the match as long as the victory comes. For the very first time in the match, Gukesh leads.... Gukesh has one more white and 2 blacks. WIll Ding play attacking game or stall it out hoping for a Gukesh blunder ?? I hope Gukesh's team and coach, just ask him to play ultra defensively with Black and solid with White. It has been so hard to get a result game in this match, if Gukesh loses the lead due to recklessness now, it would be his fault only. Tillu 1
