He has one of the best defences in the team otherwise he wouldn't be able to have such a good record in England, Australia and SA. Every batsman is going to get out one way or another. i think the point there was that he doesn't get out very often to his maverick shots as they are a calculated risk that he takes and pays off more often than as not it puts the opposition on the defensive and disrupts them. This innings is a good example. He had just kept for 120 overs and was back out again while the bowlers were still in their first spells. With Rohit in the team, Pant should come in below him and ideally Jadeja as well. Otherwise he will be too exhausted during most of the game and will make mistakes in either batting or keeping. ungboysj
Pant has had lot of luck even when he was playing those great knocks and mostly had catches dropped He has to find a proper method to score runs on consistent basis or samson could come in Link to comment
Texan
LOL! Can't believe people are finding fault with Pant, who fought life threatening injuries and made a comeback and still averages 37 for the year and has been our best Test batsman in the last 5 years! What about that super experienced, workout king player who averages 30 in the last 5 years? What about the familiar dismissal of chasing the ball outside 5th stump line that we have kept seeing in the last 10 years? Or the captain who cannot even lay bat on ball or the two tailainted players who average in the mid 30s? Pant is the least of our problems. He has been a match-winner for us and still capable of playing those. Lord, lemsip and Ultimate_Game 2 1 Link to comment

vvvslaxman
I think Pant should be pushed down the order. Ball should be a little older. Cannot have him face inside 10 or 15 overs every time Link to comment

Gambhir likes him and he has a reputation. Average keeper though. However there aren’t too many options. Kishen is behind Samson in the race. Rahul barely made a comeback. Jurel is a gritty player but he doesn’t have that flair which makes him easily disposable. So Samson’s ticket in the queue is not as far as you think. Link to comment

Samson is not in the race there. Poor keeper and a T20 bat. For Tests we need gritty players like Jurel.Or atleast a safe keeper. Even if he debuts based on T20 reputation, won't last long with that technique. He's not a threat to Pant in any way. lemsip 1 Link to comment

Apart from anything else, Samson is a really poor keeper and certainly not test standard. His batting is also of the T20 variety and nowhere has he demonstrated the kind of innings Pant regularly produces home and overseas in the longer format. Pant is not the problem in this team. vvvslaxman
I won't worry much about Pant at this point. He will figure it out. Let us worry about guys who cannot fix their issues at all. Link to comment

maniac
Pant is not looking fit. Thin line between being stocky and fat. I have seen plenty of fat athletes who can do somersaults etc so he might have agility but he seems to have let himself go a bit so that might eventually become an issue if not taken care of. He is slimmer now than he was in the few years before his injury. He has always had a stocky built. maniac 1 Link to comment
Ultimate_Game
So a wkt keeper batsman comes in to bat within 7 overs after keeping for 120 overs and fails. Apparently he's the problem and not the specialist batters who're 20/3 nearly everytime or the so called specialist batter or captain "Hitman" hiding in the dressing room.
