Who said that? which reporters?

Sydney is there for ashwin

Sydney we need two spinners. So jadeja and sundar will play. Most likely jadeja to replace harshit or nkr.

Sundar is set to play as per reporters on ground and Rohit at 5.

Ashwin probably has played his last test at this rate??

His bowling has really fell off a cliff

SUndar is very close to a specialist batsman. He has also started treating himself as aa specialist  bat for the first time in his career. He batted at 3 or 4 and made 152 in domestic.  Since we never had fast bowling allrounder, lone  spinner was expected to be an all rounder.  It is very hard to unseat Jadeja who absolutley did nothing wrong. He took a 10fer. Ashwin won man of the series only a series before. They had average series not exactly mediocre series against NZ. The guys who really had mediocre series are playing this series. In all this mess we forgot a guy named Kuldeep who was expected to be the lone spinner overseas. Now he is not even talked about by anyone. Atleast Ashwin / Jadeja achieved a lot maintaiing the home streak. Kuldeep is yet to have a consistent run.  He probably would have been effective here in Australia. But once again our fragile top order needs cushion.

You're right, Kuldeep won't get a consistent run till we get Ashwin & Jadeja in pace department.

Nitish has shown promise, but he will take some time to find his right position. Bawa is another candidate and is a better bowler than Nitish, but at the moment he is not in contention.

Harshit, theoretically can be Ashwin with the bat. He has the power and shots, but does he have the mental strength to battle out is something yet to be seen.

If Harshit becomes good with the bat too (can be Cummins/Starc/Philander level) and NKR and Bawa develop well, we can play NKR/Bawa/Harshit 7-9.

Ashwin averaged 41 in that series with the ball on pitches that helped spin a lot. If that is not mediocre then what is ?

You forgot 6 or 7 umpires calls and 6 drops by Rohit mostly off of Ashwin

At this point just two changes. There were some discussions mostly on the AUssies side about Ashwin playing a role as he turned big with pink ball and has good record with pink ball 18 wickets in 4 Tests.

Rohit is a walkingwicket, will be an issue . Where to hide him? Get some ODI/T20 style runs up front or at #6? Since we have Washy, Nitish down below, there is no need to bolster late order. Let Rohit play some runs as an opener and get Rahul at #3.
Jaiswal, Rohit, KL, King, Pant, Gill, Washington, Nitish/Ashwin, Bumrah, Harshit, DSP.

to make use of the powerplay?

he's best hidden in no.5-6

Looks like Rohit has to let go his opening position and may even retire after this series if he can't buy runs.

9 players are sure to play with Rohit and Gill coming back for Padi and Jurel. The no.7 and 8 positions are between Sundar, Ashwin, Nitish and Jadeja.

India is covering more for batting worries rather than picking bowling choices. Jadeja and Ashwin will likely sit out.

Jaiswal

KL Rahul

Gill

Virat

Rohit

Pant

Sundar

Nitish

Rana

Bumrah

Siraj

To be honest if Bumrah does  not deliver, our bowling can be found wanting. I can't trust Siraj, Nitish, Rana and Sundar to fold Australia or even contain. It can happen  but I do not have  faith in them if Bumrah fails.

Also why the hell such a young player like Rana had his belly visible. A fast bowler that too.

Rahul has finally got some rhythm going. It would be foolish and selfish to remove him from his opening spot.

Also, it is best to hide Rohit down at 5-6.

Play Gill at 3.

Sundar vs Jadeja is a toss up depending on what the TM thinks of the conditions.

It is tempting to play Akashdeep, but hard to drop Siraj or Rana after one outing when both did fairly well.

Rest of the XI selects itself.

When you have an obese captain and few other bellies in the team then fitness and physical standards are non-existent.

Rohit must let go his ego and consider himself as a tailendwr and come behind Bumrah or Reddy/Sundar

We might have a situation where the side that got thrashed is going to the game with just one injury induced change and the winning side changes its batting personnel and order, bowling and captaincy so with a completely different combination all round.

In my opinion, they should just bring in Gill and Rohit for Padikkal and Jurel and retain the batting order from Perth otherwise. They can go with the same bowling..there is no reason to mess with it unless there is an injury issue.
