maniac Posted November 27, 2024 Posted November 27, 2024 Assuming Gill is still injured, I would respect Rohit if he moved to No.6 and give Jurel the No.3 slot which I think is Jurel’s best number. That could make or break his career. Indias most successful players vs Australia batted at 3: VVS, Pujara. If he is at 6 he will not get as many opportunities. Also him not being specialist keeper, he is easily dispensable. my team Rahul Jaiswal Jurel Virat Pant Rohit Nitish Washi Bumrah Siraj Akashdeep (I would go with a swing bowler for pink ball test. These conditions should suit him) Harshit bowler well but I think Akashdeep will be more ideal here.
Lord Posted November 28, 2024 Posted November 28, 2024 ^ no way thats happening. More likely Rahul goes back to 6 with Paddikal at 3
R!TTER Posted November 28, 2024 Posted November 28, 2024 Which is abso*inlutely stupid - KL should open! Lord 1

Hearing that Gill is back for Adelaide so he swaps in with Jurel in the lineup above - and I'd bench Nitish for Harshit, going with a proper 4 pacer attack with Washi/Jaddu at #7 to shore up the batting a bit. Remember Harshit is supposed to be decent with the bat also... Ultimate_Game 1
vvvslaxman Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 Seems like Australia worked very hard to practice against left arm spinner in the nets expecting to handle Jadeja and shocked to find Sundar lol But their fans are literally scared of Ashwin and Jadeja as much as Bumrah. Years of domination i guess?

Lone Wolf Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 Sundar is set to play as per reporters on ground and Rohit at 5. Ashwin probably has played his last test at this rate?? His bowling has really fell off a cliff express bowling 1

His bowling has really fell off a cliff Age has caught up. He is 38 after all. The writing was on the wall when he was outbowled by Sundar on home pitches in the NZ series. Sundar was actually the top wicket take on either side in that series despite playing only 2 of the 3 games. Ashwin averaged over 41 with the ball on those wickets so he has not made any case to be the main spinner in the side on pitches that are much less helpful. Plus his batting and fielding at his current age do not really add much to the side. I can see him retiring soon and definitely not being in the scheme of things by the time India go to England in the summer.

Even KL, Kohli failed there and Bumrah did nothing special8

Will probably hang around till home series v WI next year

Even KL, Kohli failed there and Bumrah did nothing special8 You have to when playing on pitches where you can play at most one spinner and where they would have a defensive role at best. It would be very unfair on a youngster like Sundar who has performed very well recently to be set aside just to automatically put in a veteran whose most recent performance has been far inferior even in helpful conditions. Bumrah is bowling on much more helpful pitches for his style of bowling. It's the reverse with a spinner. KL was put in because Rohit was missing, KL was the only other person with opening experience and to his credit he has grabbed the opportunity. He might not have been given a chance if Rohit was available for Perth. Kohli is a fair point. He has been helped by PR and hype but again he managed to put up a score albeit in friendly conditions with part timers bowling. He still doesn't inspire confidence in situations where the team are struggling at 10-2 in helpful bowling conditions. Will have to watch how he performs in more testing conditions as he is in the batting slot for the best batsman in the side which in my opinion he isn't Edited December 3, 2024 by lemsip

Just not writing off Ashwin yet.

Just being realistic about his age, level of fitness and form. The next scheduled series is in England in the summer where he didn't even feature last time when he was 4 years younger. He's been an all time great player but like all players, careers have to end at some point. I don't see him being able to play test cricket at 39/40 either in terms of fitness or effectiveness.
