What's with the modern fast bowlers and their obsession with wobble seam? 

Most effective delivery in modern Test cricket.  Part of the reason why batting against new ball has gotten very hard over the years .

Bumrah has wobble seam but he usually bowls traditional. That is enough to get the batters out for him.

 

 

Bumrah bowls quite a lot of wobble seam now.   It doesn't have to be massive.  

In fact, most bowlers try to bowl anything but a bolt upright seam in order to get that extra bit of lateral deviation .

 

Even calling Anderson a swinger is a misnomer.  Was true for the early part of his career. 

 

But for the last decade, he was an accurate wobbling seam bowler with the occasional swinging deliveries.  

 

And his numbers improved significantly.
