MD Shami given ultimatum

Shami is a fast bowler recovering from major surgery and has barely started his recovery. He has to get physically and match fit. He has just played one first class game so far (SMAT is not  a proper simulation of test match load). He has already had a setback early in his rehab when his knee had swollen up. There are enough other options around who can be picked rather than creating more risk for him as well as the team.

In the last Adelaide test that India played 9 the d/n 36 ao one), Shami did bowl 17 overs in the first innings before his arm was broken in the second. He was not that effective and didn't pick up a single wicket..

Not disagreeing with proving fitness before getting into the team. That's how it should be. I was simply pointing out the double standard when batters like Kohli and Rohit can come in as they please without having to prove anything. They don't even play a single practice match. There should be some sort of standard which forces players to play at least one practice match when they're coming in after a break.

I think the language used by ndtv is poor..all it says is that Shami has to lose weight and be match fit to be inducted into team...these are pretty standard requirements..no ultimatum..no deadline too..deadline implies date..this is more a target or deliverable..much ado about nothing..shami isn't playing bgt unless we lose bowlers due to injury

News published later, that ultimatum happened before SMAT

That's a silly demand. You don't need BCCI guidelines to understand the game of cricket. Different skills in cricket require different roles to be performed. For instance if a person has difficulty jumping or crouching, he might be able to bat but it would definitely rule them out as a wicketkeeper. Similarly someone who has to physically bowl 20 overs in a day in hot conditions has to be conditioned for different physical demands from a batsman who fields in the slips.

It will be very basic to mention that your argument seems very basic, and that it lacks basic sense. We are talking about International sports, not gully cricket.

Anything that is remotely professional in nature, will always have clear set of instructions and a clear quantifiable data set that stays consistent in any condition.

So, a different yardstick for a bowler and a batsmen isn't defined till the time BCCI writes a set of physical conditions required for the different schools/ batting and bowling. Since, there is nothing mentioned, it is given that all players need to have the same minimum physical fitness level across the board. It is the same point Lord has been trying to communicate.
So, unless Shami is below the fitness level of Rohit Sharma, he cannot be pulled out for his physical level. If Shami is being pulled out, then the same conditions need to be applied to Rohit as well.
So, either you do not understand the basic professional approach, or you are just very new to cricket.
In any event, cheers!

Could you share the rule and guideline set by BCCI that states the difference in physical fitness requirements between a fast bowler, spin bowler and a batsman?

Could you share the report which say Shami is fitter than Kohli?
I mean you really have to be ignorant to assume that.

Kohli's problem is his batting, not fitness. No reason to mix two things up here, there is no double standard here.

Could you share where have I taken Kohli's name?
