Indeed, Ashwin can be a good coach.

He is very similar to Kumble thought wise, Kumble too was very articulate in his planning and was a fighter.

Only reservation is people with that kinda mind are generally too rigid with their own plans. It works well with youngsters but experienced players take it up on their ego.

yep should be coaching youngsters like Dravid with U19

Senior team needs more of a man manager who can handle inflated egos

It's not that India has lack of coaches.

Ashwin's impact will be far more for Indian cricket if he is allowed to speak his mind.

Dude ended the chucking menace with a press conference and his full sleeve antics in a game.

He made Mankad normal in IPL.

You need massive reach to effect large changes.

Being a coach where you can't voice out your opinion might produce 1-2 spinners but you don't get reach there.

Today you are seeing memes about Kohli and Rohit which is creating pressure on BCCI.

What's happening right now

Bad results --> People's eyes opening up --> Criticism --> BCCI forced to take action

But we can't always wait for bad results.

We lost potentially 2 WTC titles because of this.

What we need is:

Knowledge --> People's eyes opening up --> Criticism --> BCCi forced to take action

Ashwin is more valuable reaching the masses than being in a silent role.

My personal take.

Nothing forces BCCI to take action, much less criticism. It'll only happen if it hits their pockets. Unfortunately masses will always lineup for IPL.

Gavaskar, Sachin were massive but has done nothing with commentary. Even Shastri achieved more as coach

When have Gavaskar or Sachin presented insightful views?

We need people who present insightful views.

Pujara right now is shaping up to be a great expert.

If he has decent commentary skills, he could educate people big time.

Both are very good when they talk about batting, but its lost in too much idiotic stuff.

Analysis is good for entertainment value but achieves nothing.

Commentary requires different skills.

Yes. Both Gavaskar and Sachin can give a masterclass when they wish to. But Gavaskar talks nonsense 99% of the time tho.

The reason why we have ignorant fans is cos we have poor coverage (where commies & experts only engage in fan service).

Anyways, I get your point about coaching too.

Gavaskar can be extremely insightful and talk sense when he wants to but you have to make sure it is not for an Indian audience. He phones it in most of the time because he feels it's enough.

True but more often than not...Gavaskar chooses the easy route.

Both Ash and Kumble were too much for this team of entitled egotists

I hope Ashwin takes this oppty to take a new path .. I think he has retired at the right time with 2-3 years of cricket in him . He will play bbl , 100 , cpl .. building his sky sports career . He is smart he knows that he needs to settle overseas for his daughters sake .. he is not as fortunate as kohli or rohit .. good move .. give his kids oppty to study in the Uk ..  hopefully other cricketers see this as oppty to give a “fu” to bcci ..

We may see most of the recently retired cricketers move out of the country eventually.

Retires from IPL as well, good decision. Didn't like that I had to root against him this season because of my CSK hate.

2 IPL trophies, few more finals from CSK, RR, DC. 2 CLT20s, was player of the series in the first CLT20 win by an Indian franchise, that too in RSA (2010).

His best IPL performance probably the 2011 final against RCB, when he ended the game in the first over, 16/3 in 4 overs. Till around 2014-15 he was a legit MVP in T20s.

Can't spin well in India. Can't bat well in India. Retires because he is not an athlete and more a thairsadham. But now wants to spin in sena.. ok. That's not going to work

Think that there is some rule with bcci that player has to take off a 2 yrs of cooling off period after retirement to play other leagues
