Would have been nice if there was a Deodhar Trophy of 5 teams so that we can judge some of these guys better on the format.

Deodhar Trophy is struggling to find a slot...due to presence of SMAT, VHT, Duleep and Ranji. Then we have IPL as well.
Sep-Feb is occupied by these tournaments...March-April-May by IPL. June-July-Aug are rainy seasons.

IPL only starts mostly at the end of March. Deodhar is at best a 10-day tournament.

Something has to give in our domestic system .  Maybe they can hold VHT and Deodhar concurrently with Deodhar having the best available players and VHT only having the rest.

Since we are at mid-point of VHT, I want to offer some thoughts:

1. Looks like there have been lots of flat pitches. So bowlers not doing great is understandable.

2. Almost of the "top" bowlers (i.e., those in the top 20 wkt takers) strike me as new emerging talents for ICT. Arshdeep did well, but is already a semi-established player. Mavin trundler did fine, but we know that he flatters to deceive. Arora is a solid seamer, but probably not fully int'l class, except for swinging pitches. Kambhoj is a trundler, but may do okay on some pitches (can hit as well in List A).

Maybe only lone spark is that Prince Yadav has started off well, though some wkts were against weaker teams.

3. ARs have been largely missing in action. Likes of Bawa are not bowling, and some (e.g., Hangu) have not gotten chances.

4. Lot of batters have done well, but about 1/4th are have-beens like Mandeep, Mayank and Nair. Half are domestic bullies not suited for int'l cricket: Vohra, Prashant Chopa, Hebbar, Kalsi, etc.

Interesting thing is that some promising players have done well: Abhishek Sharma/Porel; A. Mhatre (kid is only 17 and already with good FC/List A record); Prabhsimran and Lomror (neither may be fully int'l class, but both have secondary skills - keeping and bowling, respectively). Also nice to see Siddhesh Veer making step-up from past U19 days to do well with bat and ball.

Still no sign of Kuldeep, Umran, Kartik Tyagi,Simarjeet and Tushar Deshpande. I know they had serious injuries but its almost 7 months.

Hope selectors test some the current trundlers in  End ODI series instead of Avesh and Mukesh

Mayank Yadav gives me Munaf Patel vibes, tears into the screen as the next speed demon only to end up as rank trundler due to injury scares and pussy attitude

Hope he keeps in mind that pace is his USP  and with out it he won't be able to survive. Thats where i feel Nagarkoti is good, saw his videos in insta eventough he is getting injured frequently he seems to be making a conscious effort to bowl fast. Not sure about the speeds but effort seems to be there
