How selfish is Kohli to chase balls that far away instead of leaving them?

Recommended Posts

Virat Kohli since 2019 is probably the worst Test batsman to play at number 4 almost in the world. He averages 30-31 over that time with just 3 hundreds. He has even worse record than Rohit and Rahul in that time. The only reason he is playing is because of the purple patch he had between 2014-2019. Even while performing poorly Rahane and Pujara gave it their all in the 2020/21 BGT. Compare Virat's innings to the one Pujara played at the Gabba. Pujara took countless blows just to not lose his wicket, while Virat knowing perfectly that the plan is to save the game chased after a wide ball to throw his wicket away.

In 2014 when he had this issue, he came back to India and spoke to people and worked on his game. He went back to England in 2018 and was our highest run-getter in that series, Since 2019, his priorities have changed, which is fine to be frank, it is his personal space which I don't want to get into but please spare the Test team. He can continue to play in IPL and make millions and also may be play ODIs for a year or so but I hope he decides to leave Tests. It is now getting too much for even his fanboys to defend him. He got out at crucial stages in both the innings while if he had stuck around in both the innings he could have made a huge difference to the result. Just look at how Washington Sundar and Jaiswal play, they both put price on their wickets, Virat just does not care any more.

Fanbois will back him no matter what, they don't need him to perform.

Kohli's biggest problem is that he does not have a back foot game on the off side against pace bowlers.

He somehow managed without it when his reflexes were better.

Now, with reflexes slowing down with age, he has to commit to a front foot shot a bit too early against pace.

If Kohli wants to prolong his career while performing, he needs to take a couple of months off and develop an off stump back foot game against pacers.

Too late to make any changes.

He is getting old, and his reflexes are on a decline.

To change something this late in career requires immense focus, determination and hard work. I don't think he is that focussed anymore.

Ideal solution would be to retire from Tests...Keep on playing ODIs.

Just watching his mode of dismissals makes my blood boil. This moron keeps getting out to the same ball that he could easily leave alone over and over again. This is why he can never be as good as Tendulkar or Smith. This show pony doesn't want to grind out 100s or scores for his team. Such a shameless loser. Team is looking to save the match, have lost 2 wickets early and left arm over the wicket from Starc and this guy goes for a drive from 5th stump. If Gambhir doesn't kick him and Rohit out, they should all be kicked out. Ashwin would have genuinely been a better batting option than Rohit or Kohli on this tour.

It's not selfishness but pure incompetence due to waning of reflexes and skills. He was done in 2020 and has been carried over the last 5 years and should've been dropped a long time ago.

it's because he is plausibly 3-4 yr older than his official age.

Yup. The way he lost his reflexes around 2020 when he was supposed to be 31 and his prime does lead one to believe he's an age fudger and his actual age is at least 3-4 years higher than what he claims. Would make perfect sense the way he has performed over the last 5+ years.

If you can't even see off straightish deliveries outside off, which is staple of cricket, no matter how long you're in, it means you're struggling reading line & length on time which in turn is due to slowed down reflexes.
