Ponting played about 40 tests with an avg of 37 IIRC. That's the closest I can remember - selectors were pretty non-ruthless with him by Aus standards

Don't recall Ponting being this clueless. Kohli is a walking wkt and no matter how much time he spends at the wkt, he simply can't get in. Kohli's done and is way worse than Ponting ever was.

Virat Kohli in the last 20 Test inns -

46, 12, 6, 17, 47, 29(no), 0, 70, 1, 17, 4, 1, 5, 100(no), 7, 11, 3, 36, 5, 17

Runs - 434,  Avg - 24.11

Without Perth ton (when team’s effective score was 321/2 ) - Avg - 17.57

It was clearly a fluke knock that will help him play for 20 more innings, in which he will make another fluke 100 and so on

Tailender masquerading as a no. 4 batter. This should be his last Test and good riddance TBH. Dragged us for 5+ years.

Obviously Kohli is much worse.

My point, however, was that Aus selectors acted in a very non-Aus way in selecting a sub-40 batter for about 40 tests, not a small number

Probably waiting for the right time to transition but overall they've been quite ruthless. And you can't argue with the results they've had.

I am wondering why we chose 2 spinners and only 3 pacers (plus NKR) on this pitch. Aus went in with 3 pacers + pace bowling AR (much better than NKR). these 2 spinners will hardly get a bowl

Kohli just doesnt want to play domestics and try out any technical improvements...

PS: I pity the likes of Abhimanyu Easwaran who doesnt get a chance due to these leeches

his last ranji game was in 2011, SRT's was in 2013 - as many posters here have already noted

Ponting is world's most celebrated cricketer in the history of the game. He was every trophy in his cabinet. He is arguably their 2nd best bat ever tied with Greg Chapel. Also he was a leader of a ATG Aussie team, he managed characters like Roy and Warnie. As a batsman, his peak was greatest along with Dravid in 2000s. He joined elite club of modern ATG batters along with Lara and Tendulkar. He was one of the best fielders ever, as good as Jonty. Very gutsy to field up close and never showed pain.

He was no Langer who can be forced into retirement.

He commanded respect like no other, he groomed Pup and likes of Uzzie owe their career to Punter.

Chokli has perfected the art of getting out fishing outside off stump.  But he is yet to realise that this sort of consistency benefits only the opponent.

Longevity and consistency is not everyone’s cup of tea :giggle:

current Sachin would score a fair bit more than rohit, Brat, Gill, and KL.
