cowboysfan Posted February 24 Posted February 24 yeah these slow wickets don't suit him at all but I don't think it will suit Arshdeep either.
Mariyam Posted February 24 Posted February 24 NO. Shami should be playing in that over 45 tournament with Yuvraj and Irfan to regain fitness. He has served India well, and we are thankful to him for that, but he is not match fit atm.

Has been our champion bowler in both 2015 & 2023 ODI WC. Took a hattrick in 2019 WC as well. Hope somehow he gets his hands on CT, and calls off from white ball cricket. Red ball, may still can serve for an year as a backup till Harshit is ready. Mariyam, Vk1 and Mosher 3
Ultimate_Game Posted February 24 Posted February 24 No matter what we intend to do in SF, we have to play both Arshdeep and Varun C against NZ, and bowl both of them in PP to evaluate our options. Our opponents are gonna be one of SA, Aus or Eng in the SF, and if we win the SF then the final will be against one of these or NZ. This will allow us to rest Shami, see what we've in Arshdeep and also see whether Varun C would be a better bet in Dubai against SENA teams instead of opening the bowling with 2 pacers. We've the luxury to do so against NZ and should make the most of it. Rather be ready for changes and give these guys a chance instead of them bowling without any prep in knockouts if Shami comes up lame ahead of a game.

In 2015 & 2023..the only games where he struggled was when we were knocked out. Both the games, he was injured and was bowling with painkillers and injections. After both games, he went for a long break due to injuries. Coincidentally, both times the opposition was Australia. express bowling and Chamsi 2

In this they should as Shami is struggling physically and they need to be prepared with other options. You can't bring in someone without at least giving them a game. This will also give Shami more time to rest up.

HE is not a death bowler either even at his best. So what is the point of having just with one rookie death bowler harshit. Pandya is unreliable at the death.

He generates bounce due to height. Also has more variations.
vvvslaxman Posted February 24 Author Posted February 24 I can already visualize Shami going for 24 runs in one over. With hsi fitness it may very well happen. When Haris Rauf belts you into the stands like that that means you are not even remotely fit. Lord 1

Dubai pitches always has something for pacers due to the two paced nature.

The reason why he does well pairing with Bumrah is because Bumrah keeps on end tight and allows Shami to be his self. If you remove Shami, then we will have only Kuldeep & Harshit as wicket takers. Pandya, Jadeja, Axar all 3 are defensive bowlers, even Arshdeep is primarily a defensive bowler. Expecting Arshdeep to perform the role better than Shami might be a tough ask. Muloghonto 1

Shami is a more consistent Waqar younis at being Waqar Younis in ODIs - that is, get clobbered and take wickets at same time. His perfect foil was stingy Wasim, just like Shami's perfect foil is Bumrah. And just like Shami often looks lost without Bumrah, Waqar also often looked lost without Akram at the other end. singhvivek141 1

Shami in current fitness is not a wicket taking bowler either. He got some cheap wickets against BD. Against Pakistan he was just putting the ball.

Arshdeep can take wickets in PP and has great death bowling nous. Shami ain't the same Shami.

I think he can bowl his quota if he get rest in between the games. When he has to play back to back matches is where things look difficult. 2023 WC as well, he was drained as he has to bowl game after games. His fitness isnt upto the mark to sustain the load. Lord 1
