Are you satisfied with Shami's return?

Two frontline seamers are must. Dubai pitches always has something for pacers due to the two paced nature.

If we play Aus, or even Eng or SA, their batters are more likely to struggle against Varun C. Imagine Head or SA openers against Varun C instead of Shami or Arshdeep. There's not enough help on these pitches for pacers in Dubai. For subcontinental teams, open with pacers. But against SENA IMO going with Varun C as an opening bowler is more likely to put them on the backfoot similar to how Ashwin opened the bowling against Aus in 2011 WC QF.

Would have been nice if we had Nitish Reddy. He can replace Jaddu

Rohit

Gill

Kohli

Iyer

Axar

Kela

Pandya

Nitish Reddy

Kuldeep

Varun

Rana/Arshdeep.

On these tired pitches Jadeja is a better bet than NKR as a bowler. At Dubai we need to target SENA batters with spin. Let's see what Head and company does against spinners. Going with pace against them on this pitch is not of much use.

Why does Shami suddenly look like a 50 year old gym uncle who can do everything but bend his back or run fast ??
He...suddenly doesnt look like an athlete anymore. Like dont get me wrong Sehwag looked like a fat athlete.
Shami looks like a fit chaachaa going for morning jog.
Something...is off about Shami's fitness. He looks stiff as a sari dipped in phaan.

Shami chacha is DONE.  We shouldn't carry such liability for imp future matches.  He should consider taking up some other profession.  Looks little younger now. With successful hair transplantation.

3 overs, 11 runs seems decent run for opening spell in ODIs these days, even excellent.
How did Shami bowl can anyone say ? What was his aveage pace like ??

He always looked like that but would amble up and bowl high 130s, low 140s with that beautiful seam.  He's lost a bit, but still has enough skill to be serviceable. Hopefully anyway.  It is what it is.

Shami has always had a lumbering run up. I have seen him live many times and he always seemed like labouring while  running up to deliver so that isn't anything new.

The conditions in Dubai are not suited to his style of bowling. His pace is pretty much unchanged. He has done an OK job including a fluke 5-fer and that's all that could be expected of him. He offers nothing as a fielder and is a pure tulleybaaz as a batsman so there is no change there either.

Not sure it makes sense to expect him to offer much in England. He could probably do a reasonable job in a test or two. India need to lead with a younger set of bowlers as their core group to supplement Bumrah though. I'd stick withSiraj and  Akashdeep who should find conditions in England to his liking and probably Shardul and Harshit can also be taken along.

Yup the pace bowling attack for Eng should be:

Bumrah

Siraj

Akashdeep

Harshit

Shami

Mukesh (should do well in seaming conditions)

Arshdeep

Shardul Thakur

Nitish Reddy

That's the core group we should be looking at with Shardul and Nitish to add depth.

Shami on one leg is better than almost every Indian fast bowler except Bumrah.

Shami is better than most bowlers around the world

It is just you who has realised it real late

I know, he just looks way more lumbering and stiff now than when i last saw him. Maybe its because its been a while and i am seeing him first time since world cup. He looks like stiff gym uncle. Not athlete. Rohit..sehwag...these people look like fat athletes. Shami looks like  fit buddha.

If Shami's pace is still 135kph range or so, he is easily the 2nd best test pacer for India after you know who.
So he is a must for team to england. On the other hand, Shami has always been a disaster in England so.....hmm.

Kudos to him even when he is only 50% fit. I was worried his drops would hurt us. But he managed to bowl at 140k and also rectified his line in this match. He was bowling wides left right center.

Yes.   I was not convinced with him during the match against a weak opponent like Pak. (Started wayward with 5 wides in 2 overs) But he did well against a top SENA team today & looked good against NZ too.  Hopefully will continue it on Sunday.

Today i wa snot convinced for two reasons

1) We had only one day gap after the last match

2) He is in the middle of fasting. With that tiredness and fasting i didn't expect him to survive 50 overs.

He bowled well within himself. But made less errors unlike in the earlier matches.

I thought sportspersons are exempt from fasting. Same with if you're sick or pregnant or if there's a legitimate reason not to fast.

Maybe Rohit should be force to fast on his behalf.

Shami bhai comes clutch when needed the most. That Smith wicket was game changer. Kept bowling excellent yorkers at the death. Without that spell we could be chasing 280+.

Given India's fast bowling performance vs Australia, i dont care if Shami is mr butterfingers and runs like budhau. Hide him somewhere in the field as long as he is bowling decently enough. Else be prepared for Rohit to run Bumrah into the ground by the 4th test again. We simply do not have any rockstar rising new pacer and its clear that none of the other pacers- Siraj, Akash, etc. has Rohit's confidence, meaning the minute they get hit for 2 fours in an over, its back to BOOM.

Shami is the only other guy, who even if used in 3-4 over spurts can give Bumrah a legitimate respite from being the only go-to bowler Rohit will use in England.

He didnt last a ball against VC. Actually he would have been out on first legal ball of shami as well.
