Rotating the strike as soon as you go in has been a challenge - KL Rahul

There atleast we were 6 down chasing a moderate score. KL had no business playing that knock.

We had wickets down in both cases. But Dhoni knock was more shocking because a very limited LOI batsman like Jadeja was tonking the ball while Dhoni was just stone walling. Even KL knock was pathetic. We have a habit of screwing up ICC important KO matches because our batsmen go in a shell.

no not the same. We were 80-3 in 2023 after 12 overs when KL walked in, not ideal but not something where you have to shut shop completely.

in 2019 we were 90-6 with only tailenders left so Dhoni's approach had merit though he should have rotate strike towards the end.

2023 - Batting first, got a start of 80/2 after 10 overs and then shyte the bed on a sub-continental pitch at Home.

2019 - Chasing a total and crashed to 5/3 and 90/6 on a seaming, bowler friendly pitch in England.

2 polar opposite situations which couldn't be more different. Shytting the bed was muchmore painful in 2023 where we were playing at home and overwhelming favorites.

Has he ever made a confident statement in his life?  "We are ready for it" something like that. Always some loserish statement.

Yes, he said confidently that SR is overrated.

KL redeemed himself - 3 clutch finishes - 2 in SFs and Finals, decent keeping. Tough for Pant to break into ODIs and replace KL. Lotsa of dropped catches in SFs against Aus

I still don't trust him to do the major job from 80-3 etc. Most time when he came in he just needed to ensure no stupidity and he did it well

But gotta hand it to him. He did show up here and played tough innings. Deserves to be the wkt keeper in ODIs.

Yeah the more limited role he has better for him. Axar coming at 5 saved him too.

Pant can’t be entrusted with that job . He’s no Kohli or Rohit, but with small responsibility he can get the job done

I am not sold on his keeping. Made so many glaring errors. That Varun's wide was fairly easily collectable.  Catching, stumping, collection he is poor in all three areas. Not a long term option behind the wickets
