The reality is that even belonging to another faith can be difficult, and people have to mask their faith by keeping Islamic first names. May not be prevalent, but it definitely exists.

That is only because at a societal level they feel threatened. What Afridi tried to do is just a symptom of the behaviour of such a society.

 

Many a times I see on posts on ICF, and in articles that India is becoming like Pakistan.

I don't know of any set of parents who had to name their daughter Manisha instead of a Mariyam. Or Jagriti instead of Jacquiline. We will never be like Pakistan. We charted a different path in 1947.

Don't mix that with taking a first name as Danish. Danish Kaneria was Danish in school, in his mohalla and on his birth certificate. Not so the case with Bollywood actors.

Afridi himself was a playboy for a good amount of his career. And now acting like he is the best muslim in the world. Went to watch the T20 WC in usa last year. One of my Bangladeshi friend had a lot of connection with quite alot of X BD-international players where they told tales of afridi trying to make/force them drink beer and what not with him. What a chutia this fella is eh ... lol

Javed Miandad accused Afridi of fixing games. But somehow they both patched up and Javed put out a reconciliatory video online.
