I agree. Back in the day the celebrations used to be wild. Anyone and everyone was fair game. The situation was such that  if you step out of the house, you give implicit consent to get drenched in color. Now strangers are rarely targeted. I did see a couple of youth on a bike throwing some colour at a girl walking along with a male companion yesterday. But such incidents are very few compared to previous times, which is a welcome sign. Also,the colours are easy to wash off now and you won't carry a red face for 7-10 days. Gulaal, chuner etc are no longer used now, another welcome sign. 

North Karnataka celebrates Holi much like rest of India. We used to play Holi at the college hostel crazy. Once we went out with all colors on us just to get some coffee, a police SP came and thrashed us with lathis. We didn’t even throw it on others. Pre-emptive strike kar diya tha thulle ne!
