Iyer and Pandya are different breed, never a care about milestones. Ideal captaincy candidates.

SKY too has that mindset but finished now.

Gill is polar opposite. Kohli, Sachin in their younger days were pretty selfless but Gill has always prioritized personal milestones and that sabotage of his peers when given captaincy in Zim is a red flag.

Exactly the reason I want Iyer or Pandya to be our white-ball captain. SKY is done, and Gill has the same selfish streak as Kohli.

But we have distinguish between MSD and VK.  What MSD does is due to over confidence in his ability. What VIrat kohli does is for boosting his stats. Second one is more dangerous. I  remember kohli dinking full tosses for singles in 19th over when he was on 97 or 98.

Yup last year's IPL. The one where they managed 170 odd and lost easily.

Kohli when he was Gill's age was pretty selfless.

Paindu Gill is the last person you would want as a captain

It's not like he's bright either,he's very dumb idiot individual

Seen enough of his captaincy, neither is any good technically

Hope hes shown his true place in the hierarchy,I'm not saying he should be discarded totally but should be kept behind the deserving ones

He showed his cunningness in the Zim series. Don't be fooled by his paindu acts, he is playing Indian fans, cricket version of Alia Bhatt.

nah its an inbuilt trait. He hid it well. Even in captaincy he played with many careers so the spotlight remains on him.

Whose career did he play with?

Gill is a quick learner and is seeing what behavior gets rewarded. That's the unfortunate part that we don't honor selfless and "team first" players like Raina. Instead we focus on who had more 100s and 50s and a large part of the blame goes to ex-players like Gavaskar. They will always value a 45 ball 50 or a 100 ball 100 over a 20 ball 40 or a 45 ball 80.

Some part of MSD's screwup jobs could be attributed to over confidence in his ability, but there was also a selfish streak in him. While he didn't yearn for 100s as he got less opportunities to get to 100 batting lower down the order, he did strive for "not outs" in order to boost his average. He wanted to always keep his ODI average above 50 and he played many meaningless slow knocks in challenging chases to ensure he got his "not out".

Part of blame goes to us fans as well.

We destroyed that free flowing MS post 2007 ODI WC loss, when people destroyed his under construction home in Ranchi.

Any middle class guy who struggled his whole life to build a home will get shocked from that.

He became selfish post that...Next series after 2007 WC loss was vs Bangladesh where he played numerous inns where he batted slowly without any risk and tried to remain not out and not get blamed for loss.
