Sultan Azlan Shah Cup this month. India, Belgium, NZ, Malaysia, South Korea, Canada.

We have announced a very weak squad to be led by Sanjay, even the 2 regular GKs are rested.

Done to manage workload, because we have a tour of RSA after this, Hockey India League in January, followed by FIH Pro League, World Cup and Asian Games. In between test series in Aus, a tri series in Netherlands or Belgium, details still being worked out. Packed calendar coming up, our busiest in a long time.

Field hockey update:

India vs Belgium final in Azlan Shah today

We won all our group games except the one against Belgium which we lost 2-3

Yesterday beat Canada 14-3

Much better than expected because we sent a rookie squad. Even Belgians have taken it more seriously.

Lost the final 0-1. Rookie goalkeepers did well throughout the tournament. But our forwards were a disappointment. Belgian pace was something, they created so many opportunities, and were dominant, well deserved victors. On another day, Belgians would have won by 5 or 6 goals margin. Credit to our young goalies though, they alone kept us in the contest.

So impressed with the young Goalkeeper... He was insane throughout the tournament especially the Malaysia game Missed the final game as I was out for the day.

Kept up with live updates.

Eng, Aus couldn't make it to QF.

Barring Ind and NZ, this coiuld be mistaken for a FIFA WC draw.

PS: Mind you, NZ did play well in 2010 FIFA WC, earning 3 draws in groups stage inlcuding against defending champs Italy.

India beats Belgium in QF, penalty shoot outs. Up against defending champs, Germany in SF.

International athletes complain to the IOC about playing conditions at the India Open (badminton)

Hopefully another blow to 2036 delusions !!!!

The 2026 India Open was marred by numerous organisational lapses and severe air pollution in Delhi.

Btw Himanta Biswa Sarma is BAI President. Pura din Hindu-Muslim karta rehta hai, and end mein hamari beizzati. @Lone Wolf @Lord @New guy @kepler37b

Reality of these farzi deshbhakts. Himanta and his cronies were blaming the poor athletes who complained, crying conspiracy, no accountability whatsoever. Why would top badminton players pay hefty fines rather than playing the tournament? Badminton is not even a rich sport like football, cricket.

And Delhi should never host another international sporting event until they sort out their air pollution woes. Hell on Earth where people normalize 800 AQI.

Hyderabad is India's badminton capital, why are they hosting in Delhi in January?

Modi's regime has unleashed lot of zealous nationalists, who know nothing of our country. Organization and planning is our stark weakness. But they would not agree.

No parliamentary debates about this @Lord @New guy @Lone Wolf @LordPrabhzy

Was checking the opening ceremony the other day. Aira gaira countries, even tropical ones, have bigger contingents. We have the mighty Himalayas, ice and snow stretching across 3000 km and can send only 2? China didn't win one medal throughout the 80s, and they finished 4th in last games with 9 gold medals. Here also they have sent a contingent of 126 athletes. Australia always medals, where do they even practise?

Everybody on SM is mocking the world's most populous country and Modi is making ultra long speeches about Nehru and Indira Gandhi in Parliament, for the 10th consecutive year.

I picked it up from Indian handles retweeting or responding to that. Factually he is right. And I want to know what the govt's plans are.

Let us win some summer medals first.

Winter will only be J&K, Himachal, Uttarakhand and some Northeastern states. And total population combined wont be much.

Think we should focus on being a top 10 summer medal nation before focusing on winter medals.

Sporting infrastructure of hilly states is beyond sub Saharan country level...  There is talent but just no infrastructure to support kids.

Vishwaguru is a doomed place to begin with.  Rampant corruption and babudom is a bane which has no solution
