Yashasvi Jaiswal quits Mumbai to join Goa’s team

He certainly wants captaincy gig to up his stocks, that's it

His performances before IPL is enough to keep BCCI caring for him

BCCI knows he's an all format batsman, cannot build a future side on one batsman alone

They need both him and paindu firing, maybe he's asked to do something behind the curtains from one of the rulers itself to display leadership acumen/skills

Parag is already leading Assam,BCCI weighs in few options beforehand

Yashasvi Jaiswal kicked Ajinkya Rahane's bag in anger, felt targeted in untenable relation with Mumbai captain: Report

Yashasvi Jaiswal kicked Ajinkya Rahane's kit bag after Mumbai coach Omkar Salvi and captain questioned his commitment, and it left the young opener fuming.

It is not easy for any other cricketing aspect in India to grab headlines when the IPL is going on. But so shocking was rising India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal's move to quit Mumbai and join Goa for the next domestic season, which continues to be a major talking point among fans. Jaiswal requested for an NOC from the Mumbai Cricket Association to turn up for Goa, which has earned the rights to compete in the Elite Group from the 25-26 season.

Jaiswal said the move was because Goa offered him captaincy. "Goa has thrown me a new opportunity, and it has offered me a leadership role. My first goal will be to do well for India, and whenever I'm not on national duty, I will be playing for Goa and try to take them deep into the tournament," Jaiswal told The Indian Express.

Fair enough but why the rush to get captaincy exposure? It's not like he's in line for a leadership role in Team India. Even in the IPL, Jaiswal has little chance of Rajasthan Royals as Sanju Samson has been their primo supremo for quite some time, and when he was not available, RR gave the captaincy band to Riyan Parag.

Generally, players leave a heavyweight like Mumbai when they are at the twilight of their careers or are not quite able to break into their XI regularly. For Jaiswal, neither held in merit. Then why?

Jaiswal kicked Rahane's kit bag, had a fall out with Mumbai coach and selectors

According to an India Today report, all was not well between Jaiswal and the Mumbai team management, especially captain Ajinkya Rahane. The report claimed Jaiswal kicked captain Rahane's kit back after a Ranji Trophy match and J&K at the BKC ground. It happened after "Mumbai coach Omkar Salvi and Rahane questioned Jaiswal's commitment, and it left the young opener fuming."

This was not the first time Jaiswal had been at a crossroads with Rahane. In the Duleep Trophy final between South Zone and West Zone, WZ captain Rahane famously sent off Jaiswal for continuously sledging an opposition batter. Jaiswal was sledging South Zone batter Ravi Teja and even after repeated warnings from the umpire, he did not stop. Rahane felt he was crossing the line and gave the marching orders to his young teammate.

The report added that Jaiswal was not pleased by the constant scrutiny over his limited appearance for Mumbai in the last couple of years since he graduated into India's regular Test opener.

Jaiswal and India captain Rohit Sharma made themselves available for an important group fixture of the Ranji Trophy and J&K after the BCCI made it mandatory for all centrally contracted Indian cricketers to play domestic cricket whenever not on national duties. In that match, Jaiswal failed to score in both the innings, and Mumbai suffered a shock defeat to J&K.

Although Mumbai qualified for the semi-finals, Jaiswal reportedly left the squad and travelled back home on the eve of the match against Vidarbha. After Mumbai lost, chief selector Sanjay Patil gave a strong reaction: "Whenever all the internationals were made to play domestic cricket, they merely participated in these games instead of being involved. The legacy of Mumbai cricket – especially when it comes to international stars’ involvement in Mumbai cricket – was not at all seen and it needs to be fixed," he told Sportstar.

According to India Today, the statement was the last straw between Jaiswal and Mumbai team management's untenable relationship.

Rahane jaise gau insaan ke sath ye bhid gaya, if it's true then what can one say?

It's given there's more than meets the guy. After all who moves to a team like Goa from Mumbai. Shows that Mumbai are more than happy that a generational talent and our best batter Jaiswal moves out shows the politics under way.

They won't say anything to likes of Rohit who has sucked but scapegoat Jaiswal. Extremely disappointing.

WHy didn't he consider joining some other team. GOA is a sh** team right?

Goa is the team where all the useless turds (read nepo babies) who can't go anywhere else move. Luminaries such as Rohan Gavaskar, Stuart Binny and Arjun Tendulkar have plied their trade there.

Jaiswal should move to another renowned state such as UP, Railways, MP, Punjab, Haryana etc. Goa is literally like playing for Tripura, Sikkim etc.

Not the first time someone is looking to plan to earn big money in Indian cricket. With Rishabh Pant struggling, KKR handing captaincy to retired Ajinkya Rahane, Ruturaj Gaikwad not having best of times as caprain with CSK and some players likely to be sacked by management for not winning IPL will provide fresh opportunity for other captains. Also, with a likelihood that few more teams will get added to IPL in couple of years, he might be looking for captaincy experience and be ready to thrive during auctions. Nothing wrong about it. He is a established International test batsman, an agressive opener in IPL and only lack of captaincy experience is keeping him back to earn as good as some others. Probably a very calculated decision.

Wasn't this incident couple of years ago??  Anyways it was really poor from Rahane to stop Jaiswal or scolding him for sledging...  That's what the game is all about

I don't want to be cynical, but if a ex indian player who is now the chief selector of Mumbai is not happy with the way he played in the Ranjith match against J&K what's wrong.

Mumbai gave him so much.

Tomorrow if Indian team management questions him will he move to some other country.

Anil kumble, Rahul dravid, ganguly , tendulkar and laxman all went through this phase. They performed and proved themselves.

Not sure about the kit bag kicking incident, but definitely this attitude is not good.

No one is above the game.

I would be fine with Mubai management holding his feet to fire as long as they're consistent. What about Rohit who showed up for that match and shyte the bed even harder?

It looks whenever any "tough" decisions need to be made such as being left out of WT20 despite being the best Indian batter , or being made an example for performance (Ranji),or discipline (apparently he "kicked" Rahane's kit bag), it's always Jaiswal who has been singled out.

Rohit failed in Ranji, was the main reason why we were blanked at home by NZ of all the teams, single-handedly destroyed team chemistry in Aus when the team was actually looking good under Bumrah, openly doing his PR interview in the middle of the match at SCG where even foreign commies were in disbelief at what they were seeing! Or SKY not doing zilch in 2023 WC and costing us the final or shytting the bed nearly every time he had to bat in crunch in ICC tourneys. Yet no consequence for them but apparently Jaiswal is the problem!

This clear favoritism and making Jaiswal as the fall guy is what's the problem, and why Jaiswal decided to move to Goa. If Jaiswal's "attitide"is not good then what about Rohit who openly mocked India's first ever home loss against NZ with his "12 saal mein toh chalta hai" attitude, or "King" Kohli taking a break whenever he deems fit, refusing to play domestic cricket and walking into the team to phuck up the team as usual in Tests? Do you think Jaiswal's attitude was worse than our so called seniors' attitude?

Jaiswal has max 2 years left in international cricket. If he doesn't score 500 runs in the Eng series, his test career is also likely over, Ruturaj will replace him.

Hope he shifts to Eng/Aus/NZ. Clearly bigger powers in Indian cricket who want to sabotage his career.

True if jaiswal had bad series they will drop him

Sad but true given the state of our PR driven selection instead of being merit and performance based :((

Tamil Nadu Delhi or even up

Sai Kishore has settled well for TN as  captain. He has been a well established player for TN.

Ayush Badoni was appointed as captain of Delhi in later part of the last year. He too is a long time pick.

Yashasvi has done the right thing by picking a team where he actually has a chance to become captain. Also a team where there are no superstars and relatively very easy to manage.

It is true for fast bowlers more ,Jaiswal being a batsman will always get ample opportunity to prove himself

It is upto him to not get into pussygiri like kela and encash it and be BCCIs ladla

They won't let any of the two paindu Gill and Jaiswal go away

They are planning to build the future side around these two guys

Fans should rather channel there concern over possible Bumrah back ups and opportunity for potential candidates not worthless trundlers who can't do anything beyond t20s

No one knows what truly happened.

From what it seems, 2 likely scenarios.

1: Jaiswal merely showed for the matches because of that new rule. Was uninterested / wasn’t committed to the practice sessions / team discussions. Again, this is based on a lot of assumptions. If true, he deserves to be warned and then can be thrown out of the team / or he can move himself out as this sets a very bad precedent.

2: Rahane or the coach intentionally want to sabotage a young players career due to some resentment. These coaches can be weird. But looking at Rahane, to me this also seems unlikely. Also many assumptions involved here too.

3: Jaiswal unhappy with scenario 2 and also wants an opportunity to take a leadership role or just wants a leadership role and nothing else really happened . Both these are totally fine.

So all these scenarios have got assumptions. Truth could be somewhere in between or just one of these.

Personally if I were to guess. It’s some combination of all of these.

Also the fact that he chose Goa of all teams, makes me think he needs a nice party / relaxation vibe and good extra curriculars lol.

Or who knows he really wants a leadership role and this incident gave him the perfect opportunity. But why then why Goa lol.

Anyways, Nothing wrong. Who would wanna toil in domestics when you’ve got an international gig. I’d do the same. Plus u will get treated like a king with possibly a leadership role. Best of both worlds.  Only problem is when he runs into some technical issues, he needs to hire some coaches and fix those things himself in the nets. And that also is probably better.

Bhai I am not defending anyone, you are correct the malice spreads deep.

What concerns me is attitude of these Superstars .First Prithvi Shaw who is on a self destruction streak

Few years back Musheer Khan was on a similar lane and had to be reprimanded.Basic problem is lack of respect for the system which made you a superstar.

IMO the best way to address is by making everyone, including stars, accountable. You can't have one set of rules for likes of Rohit and Kohli, and another one for the rest. This is what leads to these type of situations.
