Rohit was always a middle order batsman in domestic cricket and had a successful time in Ranji.

 

However. it was his exposure over years as ODI and T20i opener, he was told to do the tough job as opener and give away his normal middle order batting position. 

 

His test average as opener is quite good. Perhaps it must be slightly better than Gautam Gambhir and Murali Vijay. Inspite of the change in batting position for the sake of team, he did manage a decent test average. 

 

I would say he has done decently  well by taking up the challenge as test opener. The recent form though was horrendous and he has taken the right decision given his form and also that he is 38.

 

Well done, for his wonderful contribution to the Mumbai Ranji team and international team as well.

I doubt team for England tour will be any different . Sai will have to wait till home series. KL and Jaiswal will open. Bumrah should be the captain . Rohit Sharma 's retirement is non news, should have come after humiliating whitewash at home against NZ.

Gill’s batting might be big issue. I would groom Jaiswal and make him vice captain.

 

He is best batsman on the team.

He could not do anything in middle order so as last chance they tried him as opener.

 

He  did well in India but turned into tailender except few innings in England.

 

Last series for Kohli to prove he belongs or he needs to retire from the game itself.No point in hanging around just for Odis.

He was average in Tests and never deserved captaincy. It only resulted in home loss and BGT humiliation
