Shubhman Gill India test captain for Eng series?

Such a poor choice for captaincy. Gill hasn't done anything in his career to warrant captaincy. His best performance is still the Gabba innings he played 5 years ago. In fact he has regressed and is a sitting duck outside of India. I would rather make someone like Iyer captain. At least Iyer has shown improvement and has leadership skills. He knows how to bring the team along.

@Suhaan, change the OP to Gills correct first name - Shubman and not Shubham. Maybe you confused the first name with Shubham Dubey.

The only good thing about Gill captaining is that he'll back Sai Sudarshan in the XI and possibly Sai Kishore and Washi as well due to the GT connection when Jadeja exits

When does GG's tenure end?

Wonder if Gill will be more effective with Nehra as coach.

Is split coaching an option - Nehra for Tests and GG for LOIs?

Captain by PRINCE QUOTA, selected by BCCI POSTERBOY QUOTA and fiercely protected by the ad merchants.
A player averaging a glorious 17 in SENA is now being shoved down everyone’s throat as the face of Indian batting. On pure merit, he wouldn’t even make the drinks squad for any top Test side, yet the hype train keeps chugging. Meanwhile, players like Sai Sudharsan, who actually score runs, are conveniently ignored—because how dare anyone without a PR agency challenge the pre-decided narrative?
This isn’t selection anymore, this is a royal coronation for the next 15 years, a full-scale PR circus dressed up as team building, courtesy of BCCI's favorite posterboy factory

So what if Bumrah isn't going to play all tests? Let him be captain in whichever ones he plays (Perth victory and in general his value/performance gives him that leeway), Pant can take over in remaining ones, while Jaiswal or some other rookie is gradually groomed.

Captain must first be a guaranteed starter. I am not sure whether Gill can outscore even Shardul Thakur in England.

Also don't understand this obsession with all format captains. No other serious cricket nation is rigid like us.

This is the era of specialization as formats are diverging so much in terms of skillset, mindset required.

If BCCI needs to promote their prince, do so in ODIs where at least he is a guaranteed starter.

Hope Bumrah retires and migrates to Canada. This country doesnt deserve him

Extremely sad that our biggest star is sidelined continuously. They should've made Bumrah captain and let the VC (probably Iyer) to lead the Tests where Bumrah rests. This is a slap in his face and undermines his contribution to Indian cricket.

Don't like Shubman Gill to be the captain. Seems jealous of those better than him. The way he hardly appreciated Vaibhav S when he made that 100 recently was disappointing.

think its more insecurity than jealousy, he knows he is nt that good and there are better batters than him. He has no format where  he is out and out elite or for that matter best in Ind.

Abhishek Sharma is his so called BFF, and Punjab team mate. But we saw what Gill did in that Zim T20 series after Abhishek's 40 ball 100.

Already in his short career has shown traits of jealousy, insecurity.

Unfortunately in India, bowlers, even Bumrah are the untouchables, no reservation or security of place as well, 'horses for courses' only applied to bowlers. That is why you see mediocrities like KL and Gill rewarded with captaincy stints, and all the endorsements as well, someone like KL has bigger brand value than Bumrah.
