Shubhman Gill India test captain for Eng series?

He avgs. near 60 in odis, but those stats are still surface level, he has played some 55 or so matches nearly 50% are in Ind and he has 8 tons of which think 6 are in Ind and all 8 in asia.

 

Most of good innings have came against a depleted bowling line-ups. A good measure these days of a player would be multi-team event. And aprt from a ton vs bd he has not much to show for <-- though this is a v.small sample. He is yet to play any odi in SA and Eng. In Aus and NZ his avg.is below 35 and SR is below 85 and has played only 6 matches there

 

Still to play some good innings against a good bowling line-ups

Hasn't shown up at the crunch in ODIs as well. A typical bully who hasn't done anything in the big moments. I would back Iyer over him any day.

I would keep him for ODIs for the time being. If he continues to flounder when needed, will find another top order player. Ayush Mhatre seems to be a great option as he's averaging 65 with a SR of 130+ and 2 100s in his brief List A career so far. Another option is Abhishek. Point is we have options if Gill continues to fail in big matches

Nope. Not after what we saw him as captain at CSK. Some players are not meant to be captain and Jadeja belongs to that category.

In Odis, can pick jaiswal and then rest is more the the same ct-25 team. rohit and kolhi are not giving-up odis (seems like).They may have cut the deal to play next odi wc if they have to retire from t20is and tests.

 

Ind fast bowling is issue , all the time wasted on -Mukesh, Avesh, etc ... do not have much options and then they still have shami in their plans....

Ind team is in same situation as CSK aging old player and  others are not that good.... And if this team goes off-the wheels there will be no hand breaks to stop the fall. 

Right now they need everything to fall in place, like the kind of target, Rohit's quick 30-40s have good impact on the game. Fast bowling is not put to the test....

Kolhi can play his easy pace batting and then Iyer to score big and quick. Any thing falls off the it will be domino effect.

BCCI needs to move on. Keeping 40 year olds who're no longer actively playing intl or domestic cricket are not the players you want in the team for WC. How do you bring them in ODIs after they spend months doing nothing? But I don't want Indian team to become their personal fiefdom where they show up for ODI series when they haven't played any cricket. Playing for 2 months in IPL every year without playing any other cricket is one thing but to do so with Indian team is different. Don't care about IPL as teams are owned by businessmen and they can do what they please. But I care about Team India and I want deserving and performing players to be part of the team, not some players who won a popularity contest.

I'll take KL as captain over Gill. We may be frustrated by his underachievement but he is a nice guy, patient/calm, no agenda or insecurity....also selfless who will play any role for team's benefit. He at least has some traits to be given leadership role. 

 

Secondary skill bhi hai, test quality keeper. And despite his poor stats has proved that he can score in tough conditions. 

 

Preference order should be Bumrah, Pant, then KL.

Was talking abt. the pov of the board, star players and IPL teams in general.

What IPl teams sees in these star players, what are board's limitations and what are the leverage these star players have.

 

Their time is done, most of sensible cricket followers knows and in these players knows it too but still they have large monetary value for board and still there are still large part of their fans do not care if team wins or not they want their player in the team.

would have no captains over these 2, let the team run. they will figure out what works and what does not work themselves rather having 2 captains who are no good.

One is insecure and other lacks the guts not the attributes you look in the leader/captain

How can board/BCCI be ok with persisting with these players when they don't play any other format except ODIs? These [layers can continue in IPL like Dhoni but time to cut off the cord. You can't carry 2 40 year old semi-retired players into a WC, especially when you've enough talent in place. Jaiswal and Sai are more than ready, with likes of Abhishek also hanging around.

yet another proven inadequacy  to lead the test team now. After playing almost 1/3rd of a full career(59 inns) , an average of paltry 35. Even more pathetic is the away record in SENA + WI.  Instead of dropping this guy from the test team for ever , they have made him the test team captain .This nepotism  & there by  incompetency is the curse of Indian cricket. Just lower the expectations as a fan, that is the only way .
