And how did they do with that "pace" yesterday ? They were being tonked around by the lower order like club trundlers because they had no other skill.

I clearly wrote that it is the combo of pace + accuracy + bounce + movement which is needed for success these days.

Siraj and Prasidh lacked accuracy big time.

So what is the point you are making ?

If you look at overseas bowlers who have been successful in England from Alderman, Mcgrath, Philander, Mohd Asif etc, pace was not the weapon that brought them success. As long as you can do something with the ball, England is the one country where you can do well without being particularly quick.

I would agree with you till 2022.

But the English are not providing those pitches anymore to help Bazball.

If we find a greentop or a pitch which will not flatten out then I have no problem with 130 k accurate swing bowlers in that test or tests.

P.S. .. McGrath can't be compared with the other bowlers you listed because he was a very tall bounce bowler who could make the batters hop on almost any surface.

Arshdeep Singh needs to be tried. Won't do any worse than Siraj and Co.

Moreover, he gets bounce from 6'3" height apart from swing.

Bazball started from 2022 with series vs New Zealand and one off test vs India.

These sort of pitches I am pretty sure Rohit and Kohli would have scored.

India needs to focus on bowling, need to get Kuldeep in.

But will bowl 125-130 and is not immaculate.

With Bumrah likely to rest, who would you play ?

All our other 3 pacers have looked poor in Test 1. Looking tired too.

Options available ... Prasidh, Harshit, Siraj, Arshdeep, Akashdeep, Nitish, Shardul

My choice ....  Rest all the tired and non-performing pacers. This is not a knee jerk reaction but an attempt to keep the mediocre pacers fresh atleast by rotating them.

Play ....

Arshdeep .. swing bowler

Harshit .. fast bounce bowler

Akashdeep .. Workhorse

Nitish .. Allrounder 4th pacer

Not saying they will do any better. But atleast keep the pacers fresh by rotating them.

Bumrah will be back in test 3 ....

Siraj or Prasidh may be back in Test 3 replacing the pacers who underperform.

This maybe modified a bit based on Innings 2.

Source of Bumrah resting news?

He has bowled only 25 overs

Prasidh needs to play all tests if he is fit, he has the most upside among all the bowlers. He just needs to do better job.

I would get Arshdeep if he swings  new ball and he can bowl t20 style yorkers with older ball. I think he can bowl 15 to 20 overs in day.

Bumrah has said that he will play only 3 tests.

So it will be either

T1, T3, T5. or

T1, T2, T4

We have to prepare for his absence.

Arshdeep was not the first pick in the 11.

Is in the squad only because no proper backups to Bumrah and Shami were created.

If he gets in, we have to blame the atttocious accuracy of Siraj and Prasidh.

Akashdeep needs to be tried.

He may provide a decent accuracy + pace combo.

In Australia he had still not regained pace after his illness and suffered. In the IPL he was bowling at his original speed of late 130s to early 140s.

He is likely to be more accurate than Siraj, Prasidh. Shardul and Harshit and will definitely be quicker than Arshdeep and Shardul.

But nothing is a certainty regarding these almost untested pacers.

His natural length is too short. He'll be more consistent and hard to score off but won't get many wickets

Bazballers may throw their wickets away if they cannot score freely. Need to slow down their scoring rate and stop giving freebies.

Possible!

Fast bowling brigade is overly obsessed with workload.

This is what Bumrah himself said.

can play only three Tests in England: Jasprit Bumrah

Why will bumrah rest after one single match? Huh?

Bumrah himself says he will play only 3 tests.

So he will miss either T2, T4/T5    or   T3, T5

In either case, it will be a huge challenge putting up even a decent attack in his absence.

I don't think India has any hope in this series with or without Bumrah. He cannot take 60 wickets on his own in tests he plays and he has no one at other end to suport him.

I thought Prassid had talent but I was so wrong.

If this continues his bowling avg will keep increasing.
