Karun Nair should have batted ahead of Pant, Pant should be #6 in long term

He wasn't dropped after 300. He was dropped after being complete failure in BGT. His 300 was also a lucky innings with half a dozen drops.

He didn't make it to the playing XI of next test in Pune. Which imo was a bad decision.

Karun Nair is back to the squad after performing for 2+ years in domestics... think even he knows this is his last chance. Nothing less than a 100 will save his career

He has played county cricket for two seasons as well, so he should be well aware of English conditions. That 300 probably makes the TM hope that he still has tremendous upside, which is why he was retained and Sai was left out. So far we haven't seen much from him after 3 innings of batting. The second innings of this match and probably the next game could be the line in the sand for him. Hope he delivers!

Dhoni used to bat at 7. Then Pant came and started batting at 6. Now he is batting at 5. We are consistently weakening the batting lineup by pushing a wk up the order instead of finding batsmen to do their job

Dhoni used to bat at number 7 for one reason Fab five did not have guts to play with just five batsmen.

What the eff has guts gut to do with that? Practically every top side played with 6 specialist batters in the day, including Oz, the only exception being SA due to Kallis & you could argue Eng with Flintoff. Put runs on the board & let the other team buckle under pressure - that's how the game's been played for almost 150 years now & runs on the board is still the best way to win!

That 300+ not out inflates his average. Nobody scores big like that many times in a career. Take nothing away from that marvellous innings, but he needs to be consistent rather than one innings wonder he has been.

Worst batter to hv ever represented Team Ind in white jersey.  Averages merely 43 despite having a fluky 300 under his belt (on tailor made home track).  That speaks how much of a trash he really is.  Averages 19 in the 4 innings on this tour on world's flattest pattas.

India lost last game after setting up 370 target in last game. Pant walks in at #5 with 320 lead and almost throws it away. Need better game awareness for #5 batsman.

No , he has done exactly what was needed, he injected energy into innings. If he gets out doing so  that is just fine.

Nair and Rahul screwed India last test by not even putting away bad balls.England were ready to give up on that test after Pant got out.

Karun worked hard and got an opportunity. Happy that he got it. But without ancillary skills it is very hard to fit him in this squad given that India is in transition where they are building a core which should primarily consist of players who are in their mid 20s.  He played on reasonably good batting surfaces. He should have cashed in. Failed to score even a single 50.Among the 15 top/middle order players  from both sides only one person not to get a 50.   Even Carse got a 50. That doesn't reflect well  on him.

Sai is too nervous for a #3, Nair is better option in MO. Play both and go with Kuldeep

Jaish-e-Mohd

KL

Sai

Gill

Nair

Jurel

Washy

Jadeja

Kuldeep

Akash

Bumrah

Gauti reads ICF.. Proof above... Except for Kuldeep and Bumrah, all picks were perfect.   My cricketing acument is as good as GG    . but  better than @maniac;a  or even  @vvvslaxman :yay:

6. Rishabh Pant (WK

This top 6 looks very good!

Sarfaraz instead of Tilak. Sarfaraz hasn't done anything wrong and deserves his chance. I'm bullish on his younger brother as well (Musheer Khan). Or the other option is to have Sundar in place of Tilak and Nitish Reddy or another pace all rounder at 7. We need more bowling options.

Not really convinced with Sarfaraz‘s batting against fast bowling :noidea:

Musheer needs a few more seasons in domestic cricket before he is ready!

Sarfaraz has done enough to warrant a longer run. At the very least he deserves his shot to fail. If he performs like Karun Nair, dump him but he needs to be given a fair chance.
