How on earth will that work when the IPL has made the all rounder role practically redundant with this Impact sub rule- grassroot players prepare for IPL and not for red ball. You wont find many genuine quick seam allrounders who are good at both- Pandya is the last one we have

Reddy does not bowl for his IPL team but he bowls for Indian team.IPL has removed the need for allrounders.

Unless you keep bowling your bowling skills won't improve.

Pandya is unable to play test cricket for one reason , he never wanted to go thru rigors of FC.

Yup. Unless we do away with the idiotic Impact Player rule, we won't unearth all-rounders. There's no incentive for players to become all-rounders.

To be honest, I don't think this is merely a batting issue with the tail. They bat with no use of brains or game awareness. In the last game it was fairly clear they had no idea what the team plan was when they came . They just went out and did their own thing which was mainly slogging blindly. Had they tried to play to a plan of sticking around for the batsman they might have reduced the time available and scored more runs to set England. I would hold the coach and the TM accountable for this lack of planning and strategy from the lower order.

One of Harshit Rana or Akash Deep should have been in the XI for their batting alone.

The difference in quality or perceived difference in quality by team management between Krishna/Siraj and Deep/Rana is negated by the fact that Deep and Rana are more capable with the bat.

Too many of the tailenders like to slog, think any bowler can look to Ishant as an example.  He could not bat but learnt to be able to stick around and survive for a while, allowing someone at the other end to try and score some runs and build a late partnership.

That should be Thakur's last game for India, pretty clear the captain had little to no faith in him.

Reddy or Washy as an extra batter should be considered or Kuldeep as a bowler and Jadeja should be considered as a batter who can hold an end up with the ball.

Having 4 no.11 makes us no.7 and no.6 redundant as they invariably throw their wicket away being afraid of losing wickets at other end. Some of these guys can't even defend. So they end up slogging.

Instead of blaming bowlers to score runs, one should expect KL Rahul (34.70), Shubman Gill (36.57) to average 45+ given that they are specialist batsmen and have failed for most part of their test career.

Even Yashasvi Jaiswal who has played just 20 tests is way ahead of KL and Shubman Gill even though they have played 59 amd 33 tests respectively.

Then it is expected that bowler does a batsman's job because batsmen are incapable at it more often than not.

It is like expecting KL Rahul, Gill and Karun Nair to pick the wickets because none apart from Jasprit Bumrah are doing their job on wickets that are not spin friendly.

3 for Siraj and 2 for Akashdeep on a batting wicket. Should they be dropped as they didnt score runs?

Drop the batsmen who have below par batting averages instead.

Siraj 70/6. but scored just 8 runs.

Should have been dropped for a bowler who would have scored 20 runs at the best in couple of innimgs in whole career.

When our specialist batsmen have averages below 40, does India really has specialist bowlers who will even average 20 runs.

More than the average commonsense is utterly lacking. India could have drawna  few tests with the help of tail.

What I don't like is that fast bowlers are not expected to bat, but spinners are expected to bat

Fast bowlers invariably gets a free pass with fielding as well. They use injury scare as an excuse.

On the flip-side, a question that is never raised.

How do we improve the bowling of our top order batters ?:antijinx:

That has not worked out hence the circus of blaming bowlers for not scoring runs. Bowlers are easy to throw jnder the bus. The bowlers do not have a fan base like over hyped batsmen with ordinary averages. Easy to drop them without fan base asking questions.

Siraj - 7 wickets

Akashdeep - 10 wickets

Specialist bowlers are more useful than going for bowlers who can bat better but cannot pick wickets.

Prasidh is also picked a specialist bowler. Didn't do any good. Besides back then Bhuvi Shami could bat. Ishant could stick around. Theyw ere not total douchebags with bat.
