basic maths - batsmen cannot afford a mistake, bowlers always get a chance at redemption . if in doubt err on side of bowling specialists. you need 20 good balls.

There are many.

Gurnoor Singh Brar is one...6.3 height. Can bat, pace around 135-140.

Yudhvir is another...6.1 height, same pace. Can bowl long spells...bat as well.

Sandeep Warrier, HS Sharath, Kuldeep Sen, Yarra Prithviraj, Simarjeet Singh...start digging up and there are so many potential fast bowlers that got neglected.

 

Akashdeep is playing since 2019...got chances only in 2024. After Mukesh, Avesh, Unadkut.

Test cricket is about specialist...netiher sundar nor reddy are fifth bowlers in test...they are Maxwell kind of bowler in tests...this was such a bad and defensive team..without Bumrah we will be struggling to pick wickets.

 

 

My team would have been in the absence of Bumrah

Akash and Rana can bat a bit and Kuldeep can defend..our tail would not be that bad. Rana can't do worse than Prasidh...though neither are test match ready. Prasidh however has shown that he is inconsistently good...bowls horrible and then does well next match..so will see. Rana over him was more for batting than bowling.

 

The spinners hold one end up while the fast bowlers rotate.

Usually I try to think from TM's perspective and if there is any possible reason I'm okay even if I don't agree with the call. 

 

But can't understand why you'd drop a young Sai and keep 34 yo Karun and then bat him at 3?

 

Why'd you keep Prasidh who leaked at 6 rpo in a Test match. Can't even bat. 

 

Why not play your premier spinner when top bowler Bumrah is not playing and pitch is dry?

I dont have a problem with Sundar's inclusion, problem is non inclusion of Kuldeep and not dropping Prasid who is a leak machine. I dont think he would do anything better in this test also.  At least a bowling line up of Arshdeep, Akashdeep, Siraj and Kuldeep would have been slightly better than the current line up. It seems GG thought merely about scoring 500+ runs so that we can save the test. How wrong he is ? Even if the target is 400, it will be chased by England with this bowling line up.

Please stop Nitish Kumar Reddy experiment in Tests. He is not good enough to be an all-rounder. He isn't an international standard bowler and he isn't good enough to be a specialist batter either. So not sure what role is fills in the team. GG is a horrible coach and tactician. India made him the coach because of IPL where everything is given to you on a platter. If you pick well in the auction and select the right squad from all around the world you have a chance to making it to the play offs but Indian international team is different. India messed up in Australia picking too many bits and pieces players in the XI and they are doing the same thing now in the second test panicking after one loss. 

 

Sai Sudharshan should have never been dropped after just one failure. India are just weakening middle and lower order and there is a lot of pressure on Jadeja, luckily he is a better batter in SENA than he is a bowler, this helps us with some runs but this will not win us anything.

They were forced to include him in Australia and he made a cracking 100 on debut, and now they are fixated on him replicating that success.

Even though he hasn't done well in last few outings, I back Reddy's inclusion. To win a marquee series in SENA, we need a pace bowling AR, so groom him for that role.....results may come in next cycle or the one after that, but the 22 year old kid has shown enough spark to be invested in. This is where Pandya and Bhuvi's selfishness hurt us, Thakur had a short career........pace AR in SENA is a must just like how you need spin ARs in SC.....there we are better placed with Washi and Axar hopefully stepping up.
