This side is getting into a hole,

A hole where they don't believe they can chase anything over 180 or 200 against a decent attack

They need a major reboot in thought process, the top order has to play it as test not even semi odi

Most recently Jurel and Gill guided India in a tricky chase. One wicket there we could have collapsed. Jurel was amazingly cool. I seriously think they should consider Sai Sudarshan. I know he is far from finished article. But he has mental fortitude.

We are just not good enough

Think about it we were unable to defend 380 and chase down 193

We r so **** that we set them 600 to chase in second test

.

Just shows which is the better team

The dint chase 165 against sl…. Where Sonar Chandimal gave us beating of lifetime.

How can a team bat so well in first 3 innings and then consistently fare worse than WI, Pak, SL, BD come the 4th innings?

Reminds me of how we always conceded late goals in hockey. Like 2003 CT opener against Netherlands where we led 3-0, and then conceded 4 goals in final 5 minutes to lose 3-4; also that Poland late equalizer in Sydney Olympics haunts me till date@neel roy.

We were about to loose against kangladeshi in chase of 147. Thank to Iyer and Ashwin or else it would have been another feather in cap. Also i yhink above data is not correct , we lost many more chase below 190 . Remember 165 against sl where chandi gave us thrashing.

Chandimal got dropped in that innings. But our maharathis got owned by Tharindu kaushal and Herath.

He got 3(4?) chances including a couple of shock/horror umpiring decisions against us! Any way losing in 4th innings in Asia isn't that big of a deal, although Pants also committed Seppuku vs NZ at Mumbai as well

It's an issue since at least the IPL - I know we were bad even during SCG's reign but we had a few memorable wins under him then Dravid/Kumble especially against strong teams! This really changed under Dhongi, although IPL also coincided around the same time. We still won a few at home but away we're just complete pussies now & it's only gotten worse under BRat, RGS & maybe Gill now :hmpf:

It's the lack of batting skill & execution. (On tricky pitches) Nothing to do with mentality.  If u see, Jaiswal tried to attack..Failed.  Every other batter tried to defend...still Failed.   Except Jaiswal no batter gifted his wicket by playing rash shot, still the result remained the same. ie massive failure.  Our batters (incl Gill) think they are world's best after stat padding on flat pattas. On a slightly tricky surface they barely last 10 balls.  Look at Gill's score in this test.   16 & 4.  LOL.   We need better batting coach.  Rathore & similar no name coaches hv spoiled it totally.

This!!!! It doesnt matter agggresive or defensive our players are fattu historically…. Even during Sachin time we couldn’t chase against zimboks in 4th inning. We need gutsy players

That BD test would have been humiliation of the century, one of the reasons why I have soft corner for Iyer. I cannot deal with rabid Kanglu roaches swarming all over SM, no power on Earth can.

Data is correct bro, the cutoff is mid 2019. Galle happened in '15.

Between 2003 Adelaide and 21 Gabba we didn't have one successful 150+ chase in SENA. Before Adelaide there was another 20 years drought, where we messed up 200 chases even in Zimbabwe.

Second innings woes were there in ODIs also once upon a time, we were the worst chasing side in the world. Against Aus we didn't have one successful chase between 1998 desert storm and 2007 Mumbai dead rubber. Under Dravid-Chappell only, we started becoming more confident in ODI run chases which was till then bread and butter for all other sides including Pooks.

I too feel the same , he was wrong done, player like him deserved chance in this xi….. he should have been there in place of Nair, may be  not playing at first down but such an imposing mo batter cant be kept out from playing xi.

In traditional Eng conditions, he would have found it tough.

But on these pitches guys like him and Sarfu would have put fear of God inside Poms.

In general Indian batsmen are the most skilled in the world,  but also mentally weak. Less talented batting lineups of RSA, Aus collectively achieved more than even our Fab 5 because they had more grit, bigger balls. Our maharathis are great in statpadding, useless milestones but in crunch time when we need a 30-40 from them, they'll disappear.

They all become stars(in own world) and play accordingly

Stark difference between Jaiswal of early 2024 and now

you need boring players to conduct 4th innings chases. Someone who opposition don't really focus on. For example Nair in our team. He is probably the last guy they focus on. He can get by silently.  England was ultra focused on line and length and were relentless. Guys like Jaiswal can easily be needled into playing some stupid shot. Level headed players are needed to run down chases. Markram put on a masterclass albeit with not much movement of the pitch.

Wrong. Markram saved his wicket in an extremely tough passage of play with the new ball, and kept focus throughout. India would have been reduced to 30/4 with the new ball movement and pressure.

Naah, India are a good team but they are basically the team equivalent of Bumrah or Steve Smith - need to kill the game in the first two innings and then formality for the last 2 innings.

Naah, mentality issue.

Batting wise they are good. Even England didn't score much their 2nd innings.

Game should have been killed off in the first innings itself (like Headingley).
