It is not that big a record. I d on't care if he beats that.  It si a record that was considered harder to beat due to the expectations test matches will die. But in contrast England played more and more tests with Root being part of it and he was going through purple patch.

It is a pretty big record, people have been tracking the highest run scorer thing since the bradman times and saw the baton pass across generations. It'll be special if our generation gets to witness it one final time

Not big? It is the biggest record ever. No one ever thought anyone will come close to Sachin. You need to be elite and maintain it for long to be able to catch him. People still bring it in casual cricket discussions out of context.

Would you be disappointed if he goes past Sachin? I certainly won't. Sachin has been holding this record for eons. Nobody even talked about it. It is only for wisden almanac.  May be years gone by those were much hyped records. People don't even watch Tests that much in India. Only in England and Australia you see some crowd.

Lol keep jumping in every thread and asking this question when this thread is not at all related to sachin or root. Btw when you compare 2 players people talk about their record and sometime make fun as well depends on their opinion. Now where did you get this obsession that people are hating on root or bitter about it , be it any player comparison you would see same response so why you have a special noticing for sachin vs root only.Have you seen Bumrah vs Imran,wasim or waqar. Also have you got this obession that indian hate root from green forum. Root is great batsmen in test after smith from this generation but when you compare him with one of the goat there will be points raised like root performance against best team of his time like aus, ind, is it really a bitterness or hatred??? BTW do you think Bumrah is greater than all pakistani bowlers ever produced??

He's a generational talent who needs consistency and temperance (lest he too comes down with the Kambli-Shaw syndrome )

• Strike rates are all nice and dandy, other than that scores haven't pushed many envelopes.
• He occasionally mistimes shots by trying to over-power the ball rather than using placement, particularly against slower deliveries (happens to many aggressive stroke-players). 
• His unconventional grip and bat swing (which are also part of his USP) render him vulnerable in situations where survival requires a bit of dogged defending or selective stroke-play.

Travis head played under-19 world cup in 2012. He was 19 then. He made debut 6 years later in 2018. Won 2 man of the matches till 2022 across formats.  Now we are in 2025 he has 21 man of the matches  including crucial matches. All these years he was not subjected to intense scrutiny every step of his way even when he was in his late 20s. Here we are scrutinizing this kid when he is barely 16.
