Chakdephatte Posted August 19, 2025 Posted August 19, 2025 Australia was in same situation when Maxwell was dropped A 200 run loss was on cards, but Maxwell rescued them. Then they fluked wins in semi final and final. Exceptionally lucky team. Rondu and nitinbwj 1 1

Then they fluked wins in semi final and final. Exceptionally lucky team. Aussies were making the SF as number 3 team even had they lost by 800 runs to Afg. NZ made SF with just 5 wins. Aussies had lost only to Ind and RSA before that Afg match, and their last match was against Bangladesh on a patta in Pune. BD was in awful form that WC and finished with same points as Netherlands, they were never going to knock out Aussies from the competition. They didn't fluke in SF and F. Showed their clutchnesss in SF, and final was a massacre.
Gollum Posted August 20, 2025 Posted August 20, 2025 (edited) Aussies will clown around as usual but come 2027 October, once again they will be the team to beat. Even if they don't win, the eventual champion will have to go through them by playing their best match of the tournament, like 96 Lanka, 11 India, 19 England. Got whitewashed at home against Pak last year. But in CT, even with their depleted team (picks like Dwarshius, Sangha, Ellis, Connolly) tested eventual champs to the maximum. Kohli had to bring out his best knock in recent years, KL his most clutch one, and more clutchness by Shreyas, Pandya, Axar. Btw it was their first match in Dubai while we were stationed there whole tournament. We were one brainfade or stroke of bad luck away from losing that day, and no way would Kiwis have beaten even 3rd string Aus in an ICC final. That's because their selections and combinations are usually spot in every World Cup squad of 15. You'll never see them make basic blunders like pick 3 wicket keepers and 3 spinners in England like we did in 2019 Gollum 1

To think that a past it Aussie team gave our all conquering 2011 side such a scare in the Motera QF says it all. 1987, 2023 they literally stole the trophies when they weren't even among top 2 sides the whole tournament. Batting depth and batting allrounders 1987 - S Waugh + AB 1999 - Tom Moody 2003 - Symonds + Lehmann 2007 - Watson + Symonds 2015 - Maxwell + Watson 2023 - Maxwell In the 2 new ball era , there is a persistent myth that you need 5 or even 6 bowlers to succeed. Australia in 2015 CWC dominated the World Cup with Maxwell - average 36, economy 5.7 Watson - average 85, economy 6.57 They don't care about such fraud bowler heavy theories.
