In odis he will get his chances and that should be the extent he should be getting his chances. Let him keep playing IPL. Rohit did nothing great in T20Is for 15+ years but did a splendid job in 23-24.

Gifted his wicket after the hard work in the final. Was easily best batsman for us in WC23 and CT25 without a doubt. Without him we lose WC Semifinal and CT final imo. Shreyas-Hardik-Axar is a solid clutch trio to have. They can win us more trophies. raki05 1

Those 3 along with Rahul were great in the CT KOs. Axar/Pandya have reached an apex in their early 30s where they are solid batsmen AND bowlers. Should try and win a few before they age out. Both were great in the two titles India won. Gollum 1

Rohit never deserved to be in t20 team after 2016 and 2021 after stinking for so long as you correctly pointed out. Even in 2022 where he was captain. He and Rahul did nothing. You keep playing for so long you are bound to score some runs that is what happened with Rohit in 2024. Rohit was very lucky to become captain in the first place in any format. Iyer might do well if given a chance, but you cannot say he is victim here.Who is he supposed to replace. I think India's T20 gen has finally come of age - the gen who grew up with IPL. A lot of the new Indian kids are in their early-mid 20s - Abhishek, Tilak, Arshdeep, Parag etc so further room to become better The Purple Cap/Orange Cap winners are almost exclusively Indian now too compared to earlier.
putrevus Posted August 21, 2025 Posted August 21, 2025 Iyer is problem too in odis he is too loose, team cannot depend on him. Rahul was there to pick him up in many matches.Number 4 cannot that loose. I don't think he is going to be factor in SA in 2027 world cup.If ball moves an inch or has bounce he will go missing. I rather try to get Jaiswal a place than worry about Iyer in any format.

It sure has come off age. But it still needs to be seen if they can replicate their success in world tournaments.I really hope they do well. I still feel in world tournaments 160-180 is still a very good score. It is yet to be seen how these kids will do under pressure. SKY has already played two world t20s and 50 over world cup. What has he done of note in those cups.Handling pressure is a different animal.

SKY was great in the 2024 T20 WC though and was in the team of the tournament. 31(16) vs Aus and 47(36) vs Eng plus some other knocks earlier. Final failed but had that catch.

He was the second most run getter in the whole trophy. Better than Kohli and others. Lord 1
Suhaan Posted August 21, 2025 Posted August 21, 2025 (edited) Iyer in India and SC is quite good but he cannot be depended overseas,I'm not sure how can he handle the bounce in SA27(even the pitches are their flat and will be flat ,but he's quite weak even on flat bounce) He's still quite weak against it,besides this he's always on something to prove about that shot/delivery which most of the times results in soft dismissals All said he should be in extended squad for home T20 WC/UAE for these conditions suit him more for he can really take out the sticky nature of surface by hitting through the line and a guy like Rinku can remain why not him(Rinku has started bowling to improve his stakes which is good) Edited August 21, 2025 by Suhaan

Who said he was most impactful, he left many matches for others to finish even after getting starts.Kohli's on his last legs has avg of 54 and scored 20 plus fewer runs so him having avg of 48 is not big deal. Scoring 30 and 40s is not impactful. It helped don't get me wrong he was consistent.

Though he has found a way to negotiate this in Odis. Short ball have been issue with many Ind batters, and some of them have been able to negotiate in different formats but doing it consistently across the format is difficult. Odis is one format where any batter can negotiate or work with 1-2 weaknesses by leaving those kind of balls or having some safe short and target some other delivery but t20s are bit different if a team knows this one kind of ball will not be scored of or can get them wkt they will bowl to create pressure of runrate and induce a false short either by the batter or the batter on opposite end. In tests sides can constantly attack and target the weak-zone. Iyer has fixed the issue for Odis in Ind and Ind like condition that should be good and he can be tried in SENA to see if that if he is able to work it out there is as well. Rinku should be dropped from the team its jst not the form but the kind of player he is the position he plays in. He can not be a finisher , he is not that tall there are some limitations, looks like team look at him as some1 who can play when there is mini collapse. Think Inclusion of gill and that too as VC has closed the doors for far better and more suited t20i batters like -- Arya, Vaibhav, Jaiswal or now they can replace Abhishek when he is not in form. a poor decision, ppl were against of kolhi and rohit being in the team who have sr of 137 and 140 and gill plays at a sr of 139 how is that an upgrade. AKane Posted August 21, 2025 Posted August 21, 2025 (edited) Iyer needs to focus on what he "earns" in the IPL and forget about what he "pays" in order not to play for India. What he "pays" is money he never had. Just focus on what he can "earn" in the IPL. If possible he can play in other T20 leagues in the world too. Edited August 21, 2025 by AKane

Modi had no right being in dressing room that day. The entire WC, final, dressing room drama were orchestrated by that megalomaniac for the 24 general election. Modi has done nothing for Indian cricket, imagine naming a flagship stadium after a living person, happens only in places like North Korea and Saudi. Naveen Pattnaik played a big part in reviving hockey in India when it was dead, ever seen him pull this kind of crap? Edited August 22, 2025 by Gollum Lord 1

When they mean no harm and come around to congratulate you, you reply with a warm handshake and smile and may be an offer to share a cup of tea. And if that person is of your father's age, you show extra consideration. He is doing none of that. And his reels with chahal's wife reflects poorly on his personality.
